Yet more grey. Fairly stiff, cool breeze. Very autumnal. Again. This constant blanket of cloud seems to have been over us for SO long, weeks and weeks with only the odd break in it. I can’t be the only one getting very fed up with this.

Tiny sleety stuff blowing in a strong wind here. Not what I was hoping for.

I’ve waited years for a decent easterly and......it’s a bit cold and there’s a frost. Disappointed and embarrassed that yet again my excitement has got my kids’ hopes up and made me look foolish!

The first proper easterly for years and it looks like it's not going to happen here (Saffron Walden). Being too pessimistic? I thought this is what we needed to get the winters of the 80s back with 6" thick ice on the pond and deep snow. Why is this still not the right conditions?

Wow that’s some wind. Can’t see it on any forecasts or nowcasts. Saffron Walden area.

Photoshop?
No, not at all. Photographed from Debden towards Saffron Walden. It moved eastwards over about 20 minutes.

The very lightest of light snow. Not enough to be a covering. In fact it is more like a 'suggestion' of snow, a soupçon, a 'breath' of snow.

As usual the snow events are always fairy stories. Basically after two weeks of snowmageddon wind-ups, it's going to be a bit cold. Like January. Why do I let myself be drawn into this?

Big flakes. Lots of them. Wind strengthening.

Hoping for SNOW at the weekend!

More autumn............and it's the 18th January.............

Must have been quite localised then, as it was mad here! Huge gusts and driving rain.

It's going to be very stormy tmorrow into Sunday. If you must travel, please take care out there as it is going to be very bad.
Thanks Yamkin.

Oh the irony - I was supposed to go to Norwich today to collect a boat (!) and couldn't because of the flooding around Saffron Walden. I've not seen it this bad in 12 years of living here.
So the plan is to try again tomorrow. Will it be any better or worse? I will be travelling in a high top van so not only unsure about the water but the winds.

Radwinter Essex: Slight frost first thing, now heavy sleety stuff with wet snow flakes mixed in.

I wasn't around in Winter of 62/63, either, was born in 69. However I do treasure the photos of my parents' wedding in Feb 63, in Exeter. They were so slim compared to many people these days. My Dad looked like Rick Astley and my mum had a beehive. They have some fantastic photos of snowdrifts and lanes full of snow between hedgerows with Austin Seven rooftops barely visible.
They also talked of the coalman, but mostly of sledging down the incredibly steep fields of Devon without a thought about how to stop at the hedges. My Aunt was a speed freak on a sledge. Now she gets her kicks from baking cake.
One of the best things I've read in ages!

Never ever heard rain like that before! For a moment last night it was like a river falling from the sky.

Big thunder, Radwinter, Essex.

So true! Hadn’t thought of it that way. It’s dire.
