  1. Yes snowfall amounts this autumn in much of our mountainous parts of europe is significantly below average - not thanks down to the stubborn euro high. The Highlands have seen barely any snow so far this season - earlier snowfall around the 17th October quickly got washed away and there has been nothing since. In an average autumn you would have expected a couple of doses of polar air by now giving a few coverings of snow to the highest ground and remaining in situ.

The Alps must be doing very porrly and scandi also. Looks like the eastern mountains such as carparthians will do well in the coming days. West Russia will retain its snowfall. Scandi looks like seeing some snow at long last in the coming days and with some cooler uppers moving in - this should stick, but southern parts of scandi including southern/west norway will remain free of snow.

Encouraging though is the level of snowfall over russia as a whole - and this is a much more important factor than snow over scandi as it can influence the development of colder patterns upstream.

Most of the early season skiing events are now cancelled due to the lack of snow in Scandinavia

  2. Drove over the Slug Road to work as usual this morning, the view was amazing, completely white from the Cairn O' Mount right up as far as the eye could see. The snow started at 0820 and sitting in the office now in Banchory where there was no snow when i arrived on the ground, now there is about an inch, very large snow flakes been falling for about 20 mins. One of my friends at work travels over the Cairn O'Mount and it is closed due to snow. Its looking very promising here, yet again another good Aberdeenshire snowfall...keep it coming

It is even snowing heavily here at sea level in Stonehaven! Not lying except on the cars though.

  3. Hi

I just purchased a weather station (pretty basic but fine for me!)

Sorry for what are no doubt stupid questions but can someone keep me right on what to look out for on the following:

Outside Humidity - What should I be looking for for interesting weather? For example if it is going to snow should the humidity be high?

Inside Humidity - What is comfortable!

What is the dew point (in simple terms)

Pressure Hpa - What am I looking at for interesting weather? It is currently 1008.8!

Rainfall - How many millimetres constitutes a deluge!?

Sorry again as I am sure some of you are banging their head against a wall reading this!

    Many thanks

  4. Hi

I dont post much as I dont understand the technicalities, however I am an avide reader. I am sure that everyone has an opinion about global warming, however I don't think this thread is for it.

Can I ask what is probably a silly question. If there is 10% more ice this year on the surface does that mean it is likely to be a colder winter?
