  1. Hi, I have just arrived back from my holiday home in Oberhof in Germany which is situated in the middle mountains. Although there was not a great deal of snow it was good to see an early snow fall. The attached pics were taken on the 20th October. It is interesting to see the autumn leaves and snow together!

  2. hi Connlach, first a welcome to Net Wx.

As to snow in eastern germany. Like most Euro resorts, if there is no snow there now then, apart from snow cannons, UNLESS the models have it wrong, is about all that seems likely to fall I am afraid.

sorry its not good news but keep checking. 2-3 January is still way out beyond really reliable forecasting.

Thanks for letting me know, All I want for Xmas is snow!!!

  3. Hi Connlach,

I too am off to the Alps in early part of the New Year. We are all in the same boat. No snow base at present below 2000m throughtout most of Europe, so its a bit of a worry. The temperature profile for the next 7 days continue to show temperatures far to high for snowfall anywhere below 1500m in Germany, although there is a hint of some colder air early next week into the Bavarian Alps that may produce some of the white stuff, although this seems likely to be a temporary affair. Mild starts to the winter seem to have a "turn around " in the last week of December. So don't give up on snow yet. I have not.

Thanks for the quick reply. Going by the forecast at http://www.skiclub.co.uk/skiclub/reports/o...iew/default.asp things look a bit better but I dont know how accurate they are.

    Fingers crossed!
