Snow Watch: Midlands & C Southern England
MrAdam replied to grab my graupel's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
hmm, i'm supposed to be going to Brighton tomorrow for a long weekend. Think it's worth going down? Just had some friends on the phone panicking because there's 3" of snow and we're meant to get another dumping tonight and snow all day tomorrow? I don't see it personally but i'm now debating whether it's worth going down or not. The main roads have been fine up here today but not sure about what it'll be like when we get on the motorways (prob end up doing M40, M25, M23). -

Don't think it was an official county or borough council one lol, just looked like a farmer doing a good deed haha. -

Got about 3" here in north warwickshire... but I had no problem with getting to work! Gritters were out, a lot of the snow was cleared from around me - saw some tractors out plowing the snow! Also could of been the fact that a lot of drivers stayed home so the roads were relatively clear for 8.30 in the morning lol! -

This is quite a nice little read and the image on the left is good too. Might help clear a few things up? http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/corporate/pres...pr20090204.html -

Just had a look over the BBC charts and hoping we get a nice bit of a pasting here. Am off work on friday for a long weekend until tuesday and a work from home day tomorrow would fit in quite nicely LOL! Praying to god but we never really get more than 2" here to be fair. -

I just looked out of my window again and it was nice to see all the pavements have been covered over again and our little street has recovered in snow now. Sticking quite well and my grass is covered. There must be about 1.5" outside now easily! Enjoyed teasing my little dog just too, he's a little miniature schnauzer and I made a snowball, packed it and rolled it across the snow, he chased and then went to pick it up and it all fell apart as he bit into it. He looked a little perplexed and slightly disappointed haha. -

After a brief hour or so of sunshine the snow is back on again lightly but it's settling fast (i've got -1 here) and adding to our ~1inch! Keeping my fingers crossed for that low later lol. -

I'm just going with the negative thoughts and anything else is a bonus! haha! Has been nice to wake up to some snow and to be sitting at work staring out of the office at the snow. Not my most productive day at work but nonetheless... i'm enjoying the day! haha. -

I'm sorry if this is a really stupid question or if i'm missing something but I wondered if someone would explain the PV (im guessing Polar Vortex) to me? At the moment i'm going under the assumption that a Polar Vortex is a low near Greenland but i'm learning slowly and have been reading some really interesting explanations that have helped a lot as this is of a great interest to me! Sorry again if it's a silly question!

Well it's down to -3c here for me at the moment. Birmingham Airport is down to -5c according to XCWeather which is only 15 miles away but shocking. Was at -2c already when I got in my car at 9 this evening. My electric windows on the car had completely frozen and couldn't be opened! It's very refreshing outside anyway and a perfect clear sky out!

Had a very nice winters style day here. There's been some fog around all day that has just started to become a little denser now and it's hovered around 0.5ºc all day! Very cold outside but quite enjoyable and refreshing.

I wonder if the upcoming Northern Hemisphere winter is going to be a severe one! After the severe rain we've had i'm hoping we get some good snowfalls, but another part of me thinks - well... could we really handle it? and then all the side effects start to show!! but the whole world is having some might scary weather as of late!

have got some awesome snow fall here. has been falling for a good 3 hours now. about 2" on the ground and a constant fall of snow. god bless, it's about damn time! although i'm having the most fun trying to find out if my college is closed, it's like trying to find a needle in a snowfall. -
18z model discussion - all aboard the snowlercoaster!
MrAdam replied to Paul's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
So given the precip is anticipated to be further north. Does this now mean the Midlands will not be in a direct firing line for the front to stall at? Or are things changing too much to be able to pinpoint much? Damn models and their trickery and teasing. -
I was thinking that too actually!! We usually get a sorry excuse of 1/2cm of snow here that's usually disappears as it hits the ground, hoping the next event this week pays off a little!

It hasn't been too bad here really, more so just nippy with some maximas of about 3/4ºc I think. It's still only 4ºc here today. Was nice waking up to a covering of snow yesterday!! Even if it was only 1". First snow of the season and all. Although can't really complain much, haven't had anything great to compare it to in a while! At the moment, i'm just praying to all those holy that this is an appetiser and we have the main course in the ove... er, freezer waiting to be dished up!! hopefully it'll be a long defrost haha.
