  1. That 2nd photo shows a funnel cloud-Not a Tornado.

Plus any tornado out at water would be classed as a Waterspout.

Yes I mentioned to her that it wasn't a tornado but it was a funnel cloud and as I said I would have been happy to snap them myself. Had I have seen it,I would have been rushing for my camera, but then anything weatherwise pleases me. She asked it they were worth post on a site I said that thought they certainly were.

  2. brief thunderstorm here in morecambe bay around 6ish this eve. approx 7 flashes of lightning. some heavyish rain, whole event lasted about 45 minutes.

Pretty much the same here in Kendal. Rain was torrential with flooding along the river Kent fire service were out pumping water from the cellars. I had to get out my step ladders to clean my gutters I looked out and notice they were blocked. It was coming over the top. The family next door must have thought I was barmy up on metal steps in a thunderstorm. Had to be done.

  3. Cheers,

I have to apply for a passport soon as i don't want to be worrying about that next year. Sorted travel insurance yesterday with Go Walkabout as someone recommended i think. I have yet to sort my flights out, although i imagine BA are a bit confused as to why people keep booking to fly to Dallas!

    Ok well

I booked with that insurance company and they must be alright because I arrived home safe and sound. However you will need your passport especially when you book your on line visa. As for BA well most of their staff still remember JR Ewing and I am certain you will not know what I am talking about.

  4. Hello,

Just introducing myself as Trevor Mitchell, the last member of tour one. Booked up a couple of weeks ago, and i am ridiculously excited about going. I have read the stormchase forums enviously the last couple of years, but i am finally able to afford to go. I very rarely post on here, but lurk on the forums regularly.

I am by no means an expert on thunderstorms or supercells, but i know a bit. I used to be scared of them when i was younger, but i love them now. I am also interested in hurricanes, and snow, of course!

I live and work in Norwich, but i am currently re-taking a-levels with the aim of studying Meteorology at university.

I have already started making plans for this trip. I have not been abroad for eighteen years and have never flown alone, but i am already counting down the days.

I look forward to speaking to you all, and meeting some of you!

    Hi Trevor

Nice to have you on board. You will not be flying alone, the plane will be full of people. Only kidding :) ! If you let me know when you are flying out I am sure that someone else will be going out on the same flight. British Airways have a sale on at the moment, so do American Airlines. I must say that the Great Plains is a good lab to study meteorology. I will look forward to meeting up with you. Don't forget your on line Visa and your travel insurance.

  5. Hi all

These two photos and more were taken by a friend of mine holidaying on the west coast of Cumbria. Whitehaven I think, and she spotted what she thought was a tornado. The photos are good photos , they are interesting and show what sea thermals can do. I would have been happy to shoot them myself.

  7. thx Paul,

    Just wonted to clarify that..

Been doing some study on LP and HP Super cell's..

Brought a lot of info back which we discussed on the Highway's.

So interesting the dynamic's of the evolution of A Supercell.

    More study tomorrow

    Fascinating stuff!!!

    Hi Pat

How much did you learn whilst out on the highways? Which famous singer was born in Lubbock, Texas :whistling:

Ask Paul I am sure he knows.

    Tom

  8. lol, my chances of going next year are slipping away :)

Even if i can go next year it will end up being a bad June since June was better than May this year.

My bro is moving to Canada for 2 years, so might have to try some Canadian/U.S storm chasing at some point :) (Hi Gordon if you are reading!)

    Hi Ross

The dvd arrived safely today. Have not had time to watch it yet, been painting.

    Tom

    Cheers Paul

  10. Hi Tom

That's great, thanks very much for the info and pointing me in the right direction.

    Andy

    No problem Andy

If there is any information you need or are not sure about, just ask. I do have the address of the motel in Dallas and I am sure that it will be the one that you will be staying at on the first night. The first night is all you need to put on the online visa.

    Tom

  11. I thought I'd better get my flights sorted now especially with getting the connecting flight from Newcastle as I'm not sure how fast that 1 would actually fill up.

Does anyone know where's best to go for Travel Insurance and what is the situation with visas as I've not been to America before.

Its good to know I'm on the same flight with a fellow chaser Harry.

    Hi Andy

I booked my insurance with "Go walk about" 0845 3450 327 they do a storm chasing cover. Ross came on the tour this year and got his through Dirct on line. Yoy could get quote from both. Also don't forget you need to apply for an on line visa. You will need the address for the motel in Dallas for that. I assume it will be the same as this year. You may need to confirm that with Paul Sherman.

    Tom

  12. Hi Tom

Doing great thanks, sorry i couldn't make the BBQ. Might make the chase in may/june if i'm lucky...

Did you get the DVD by the way? Not sure if its been sent yet, it might still be sitting next to the front door :)

    Hi Ross

    ve

Nice to hear you are ok. Hope you can get chasing. DVD didn't arrive so I guess must be by your front door. Naughty chap!. I still have a lot of work to do on highlights mysellf.

    Tom

Cheers Tom, you are a star!good.gif

    No problem Craig.

It seems that there is another insurance company that also do storm chasing cover. See other messages.

  13. Hi Tom,

Was nice to meet you too!!

If you could please forward the details that would be great cheers - Barcardi got the better of me yesterday and I forgot 8)

No problem Harry the link to the Visa site is below-:

https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/esta.html?_flowExecutionKey=_c2CA70179-055C-5833-0A61-F5D3F7ED0231_kD69267B8-D0CA-F285-150C-FB2AA13BC085 Just copy, paste and go. You can print off the waiver number that they give you but you dont need to show it. You may also still need to fill in a form on the plane, we did this year. You will need to put in the name and address of the hotel that you will be staying on the first night in the states. I can find that out for you too. I guess it will be the same one as this year.

The phone number for the travel insurance is 0845 3450327. They are called "Go walkabout" and they are the only company that I have found which will cover stormchasing. This year cost me £80 ish but I was there longer and I am already old and falling to pieces :nonono: Yours might be cheaper but you need to ask for a quote.

    Tom
