1995 for me.
Although the early part was pretty rubbish, there was snow on the last Friday in January; and both February & March were un-remarkable.
The early May B/H weekend was glorious, as was most of the summer, especially August.
December had cold weather with frosts, and even some snow.

Funnily enough I remember both days (20th March, 5th April); I was on work experience for 2 weeks in Mott McDonald's in Liverpool. And then on a school trip to BAe, in Broughton - I recall the snow on the latter day, and the larger workshops/ hangars were freezing.

SollyOlly Yeah; when we actually get any cold weather, it's usually sunny, with clear blue skies and rather pleasant; and quite nice to be outside walking/cycling. Sadly, most of the winter is grey, grim wet & windy......mid November to March can be depressingly grim.

I prefer cycling in cold, dry but sunny conditions......as opposed to supposedly 'mild', when it's wet & windy.......utterly miserable conditions.

A bit different to 6 years ago today (Tues 27th Feb 2018)........

A glorious late winter's day; dry, blue skies - a day to get the bike out later and make the most of it. If only more of our days in winter were like this........

Ah, the annual dilemma in mid February; looking forward to Spring, but feeling 'short changed' as Winter hasn't delivered......

Snow, sleet??? Nah, it's just rain = grey, wet & miserable........

Yes, it was a rather short lived event; I was out on a night out later that Friday night, and nearly all the snow had gone - you'd never have guessed what had happened in the afternoon.
-
Like most snowfalls of the last 10 years - by lunchtime/ early afternoon, it's more or less all disappeared........

A light covering, but not enough for building a snowman.........

I remember 1979 but only just. By 1987 I had a paper round in the morning, and evening......and it was proper cold. Whilst the winter of 1994/95 was generally mild, I remember a Friday in late January when it started snowing around lunch time, and carried on for most of the afternoon; I was working in Wigan at the time, and it would normally take 15 mins to get to the M58 - that day it took 2 hours.
I recall cold spells in 1996, 1997, but since then only 2010 & 2013 had significant cold/snowfalls.......

Perfect illustration of why the Wirral & normally Liverpool is one of the toughest places to take when it comes to snowfall. We really need near perfect conditions to get it, I've sat here when 90% of the region get snowfall many times while we have rain. I am hopeful we get some at some point this week in the form of showers before & after Tuesday's possible feature. Our modern day average is now about 1 in 5 years compared to maybe 1 in 2 20 years ago, very poor. Last year was our first for 5 years.
Yes, the last 10-15 years have been pretty bleak for snow in this area, and if it does fall it's usually been the lightest of dustings. Never used to be like that......

If only more of winter was like it is today; frosty, cold, but with sun, and blue skies. Days which are usable.......

Very possible; probably the only time it will be seen this winter.........

HNY to all fellow North Westerners!!
I'd actually just like some dry, still & usable weather......anything else is a bonus. If that is cold and frost then good. A proper snowfall has become a rarity in my locality (normally just a dusting).

A 'typically' grim December day; grey, with rain and wind, and poor light levels.
As others have asked, when is the cold arriving - or is it a case of being pushed back, and before we know it, it's mid/late February.

Rain, well there's a surprise.......
The least festive weather possible; very mild, wet, grey & windy........Ho ho ho!!
I think the weather needs a visit from 3 ghosts, to be less Scrooge-like.....

The problem with the TV forecasters favourite word “mild” is that it hardly ever feels it and today is no exception.
rain blown horizontally by a strong wind and a technically mild 7c feels damn cold.
give me -2c and a crisp sunny feel over this crap any day and if it must be mild then at least give us a buy one get one free offer with plenty of sunshine thrown in like last Saturday.
probably what we’ve come to expect over recent years I suppose but today has been grim even by the low bar we have had set.
Yeah, it's almost as though they think the wind & rain is lessened by mild temperatures........It's not - it's still miserably wet & windy......

I remember in school we were meant to take a short trip to the swimming baths by bus - the bus went 300 yards down the road, and the driver stopped, and we had to walk back to school; the roads leading to the swimming baths weren't all gritted....and the driver didn't want to risk it.
I also received a new bike for Christmas - but didn't get to ride until mid January......

Give me bright and frosty weather any day over this damp, mild but not really feeling it wind tunnel
Absolutely!! I think that was a feature of last December's cold spell.....it was cold, but there was lots of blue skies - and it was dry. Managed to get out on the bicycle quite a few times.....whether off road, or on treated roads. When it's wet & windy, I can't be bothered anymore......

It's almost as if December 2010 seemed to take up most of our allocation of snow; as since then we've had small amounts; Jan 2013 & Feb 2018 were probably the best. Everything else has been a dusting.......

Had to take a train from Maghull North to a meeting; quite a few fields absolutely sodden.....trains were terminating at Town Green as there is flooding between there & Ormskirk. We could do with a decent spell of dry weather.......not sure it's going to happen.

Day 10 I was a regular at the Aintree GN meeting, but stopped going a while ago. Far too many people there not there for the racing, too many queues for the toilets, food & drink, and trying to put a bet on. I believe it's approx £7.50 for a pint of Guinness..........was the same for Cheltenham in March.
