My type of pub, keep it simple although even the mulled wine is pushing it a bit.
Yes, we thought they were lucky to get that; but it was Christmas so they pushed the boat out a bit.

Reminds me of a works Christmas night out in the Georgian quarter in Liverpool; after the meal we went to a proper real ale pub. A few of the women asked for cocktails, to which the ashen faced barmaid replied, " we're not that type of pub" - and they ended up with large glasses of mulled wine.

It's a real shame. Seems like fancy bars are up and coming and taking over from the old school pubs at least around the Manchester area. Pubs used to be a cornerstone of the community where you could enjoy yourself amongst others. Sitting at home drinking doesn't feel the same as you can't really make much noise from music and chatter like you can in a pub given neighbour constraints and complaints. Not really considerate and neighbourly to have a house full of people a couple of times a week. Have a good new year everyone
And I bet they serve woeful beer/ale. They usually do.....the usual commercial cr@p.....

Ah, nearly that time of the year; the post Christmas/ New Year period, when the lights/ decorations come down, and we get served up any combinations of dank, grey, wet & windy rubbish.....

That period in between Christmas & New year when you want some decent 'usable' weather for getting outside; and typically it's pretty miserable - and while it's not especially cold, it's hardly mild. I don't think I'll be getting the bicycle out today.

"At least it's mild...." Probably my biggest bugbear heard in weather forecasts/ or comments.
If it's sunny & bright, then it's fine; however, it's usually what we have today.....grim, grey, wet.......

At 6c, it isn’t particularly mild here, just to high for anything remotely interesting to fall from the sky and unless you live on the top of a mountain, there’s little sign of that changing in the coming days.
It's that 'no man's land' temperature; not cold, and not mild......just bloody annoying.

Absolutely rank; the type of day we see too many of in winter; grey, murky, wet.......

Cold rain, breezy and grey.......One word to describe that - Yuk!!!

Just looking at the snow pics in the SE thread. Some epic falls in places. I’m gutted we got nothing snow wise from this cold spell in L31. At least it’s felt seasonal with some frost and cold.
It's become a recurring theme; actually getting any snow - and then it sticking and getting a proper covering of it.......Another cold spell and very little to show.
Saying that, this morning's frosty scene looks good.

I trust you finally have a covering as well then mate?
No, I'm afraid not; we had mainly rain with sleet mixed in.....

No exaggeration to say that there is some of the worst sheet ice I’ve seen since Dec 2009 out there. Impossible to even walk the pavements.
Yeah, I had to collect a prescription from the chemist, and I ended up walking in the road, as there was more grip.

It's turned rather grim......

First frost of the winter (though there was a slight one in November). A proper winter's morning, clear blue sky, frost hanging around. I have just noticed one of the trees which has kept a lot of leaves dropping them onto my garden shed - and they're still dropping...that frost has done its job.

My hopes for all coastal areas are from Friday onwards, I'm expecting rain/sleet if anything falls on Thurs.
I think its become noticeable that in the last 10 years, we struggle for snow - and when we do get it, it doesn't last very long. Even the much vaunted BFTE didn't last very long. An 'icing sugar' covering has become the best we get. One hopes that changes......

Anytime the word marginal is used, then I expect cold rain....... ugh!!

Looks like a nice day, and bright - good to get outside....Something I've noticed, even in the space of a week, a lot of the trees are finally giving up their leaves, and the branches are becoming bare. Usually the time I consider 'winter' has arrived. However, there are still some keeping the golden yellow and red leaves.....

Quite gusty too ahead of it...thoughts with the Island of Islay which according to https://www.xcweather.co.uk/ has been blown off the map this morning..
I hope not; some of the best whisky comes from that island.......

I think this is one of those 'if only' situations, certainly for my locality. I've just been looking back on photos on instagram and Strava. Woke up for work on Tuesday 27th to a blanket of snow, about 2-3''. By the time I'd returned home about 3 o'clock in the afternoon, most of it had gone, apart from the areas in shade.
While it remained bitterly cold for a number of days, looking at other parts of the other country was frustrating, as they seemed to have quite the dumping.
I think there was another fall in early March, but this time it was wet snow, and had all gone by mid morning.........
And sadly, that was the last decent amount of snow for our area.....

Nah, it would still be freezing rain probably.......

Rain, rain & more rain; I think it was this weekend in 2009 when Cockermouth was flooded.....

Is it just me, or are the leaves really hanging on late this year? Most trees here are still in full leaf, luscious green. I’d guess they have at least another 4-6 weeks before they’re bare. At this rate they might as well just not lose them at all. Spring round the corner!
No, it's not just you. Normally by mid November the trees are bare, however there are still plenty in full leaf - but weirdly there's been loads of brown leaves on the ground, making you think they've all dropped.

At the moment, the only consolation is that there are still plenty of leaves on the trees - and therefore some colour against the drab, grey backdrop. Once they disappear, and all that is left are bare branches, it isn't a great time. Another winter is soon upon us - and another probable gloomfest.

The type of weather I compare to a bad smell/ unwanted house guest.......It just won't go.
Have been out for another evening walk, and it's rather mild, and there's less lights/decorations up in houses now. Three weeks ago we were hoping it might just be a brief mild interlude, but soon realised it wasn't. And not only that, the cold departed pretty quickly.....
