Hi, on the BBC weather forecast charts they often show a very narrow ribbon of wind blowing along a front, towards the centre of the low. Is this a real effect, and if so how is it formed ? I did get up to degree level meteorology ( 34 years ago) and remember that fronts are much more complicated than the simple models of just warm air rising over cold air at a warm front, and cold air burrowing under warm air at a cold front.
