Just turned to fairly heavy snow here in Tadcaster, starting to settle on cars already could be an unexpected fall here by late afternoon

Would be a shame for the majority of us but we go again 2nd half Feb as todays runs are an improvement for that a little
Keep the faith

Crisis in the main thread this morning. I'm sure some are on a wind up too - this isnt a 'toppler' setup (theres no high toppling onto us) and a genuinely cold 5 days are ahead.
Its a shame theres no mass snow event on the cards but id be surprised if most of us didn't at least get a covering.
Yep still a fair chance of a few surprises popping up in our region before next weekend, happened before so maybe
I thought the constant trolling from the SAD thread crew was laughable but the constant desperate need to be ‘right’ and the ‘I told you I told you’ posts from the same people over in mod thread is tiresome to say the least
Good old ignore list eh!!

Fascinating discussion over in the mod thread, it will be repeated again and again if you have missed it this time around, on the length and severity of the upcoming cold spell. Mind its not due to start for another ten days

I suspected that we wouldn't see any noteworthy cold from the outset. People were calling a 2010-2012 style beast from the east as early as August, it just seemed like a very unlikely prospect even with all the favourable conditions working in favour of cold. Unsurprisingly, as winter has progressed, many posters have confirmed what I suspected from the beginning; you can have all the favourable conditions in the world, they still need to cooperate and all at the same time. Otherwise, you'll just get bog-standard winter fare which, admittedly, is an achievement given CC. A large portion of people are still banking on a major SSW, but that's no guarantee of cold weather. Given the high pressure over Iberia and the Azores, it's entirely likely that any cold air will just get displaced around us.
There’s a little club lurking in the shadows that are looking for new recruits

It’s not until the 270hr that the -5c at 850 finally clears the entire country on the 06 GFS and even then it’s doesn’t exactly blast away south…the Atlantic looks much subdued by then, but not so subdued that it won’t try to fight back in later. That of course could produce the goods via battleground events.
Comparing that to the 18 GFS from just 12 hours prior, the difference is obvious and not exactly inspiring.
Nothing is a done deal yet.

The mood in the MAD thread is becoming more sombre as the tease the models were giving for something colder around Christmas fades away
And back here in the SAD thread

Oh no, there’s people talking about different weather scenarios, making predictions, talking about their preferences…….on a weather forum!?????
Who do they think they are, how very dare they, did they not ask the cuddle crew in the SAD thread what they’re allowed to discuss
In a model output thread aswell, you should be ashamed

I personally don't agree with the ridiculing, in either side of the camps. Realistically, most people here would rather have more clear, sunny and/or snowy conditions, over 6-10c, dark, and drizzle.
From my perception at least, I'd say this forum skews heavily towards "cold lovers" compared to "heat lovers" though.. The model threads seem to corroborate this. And indeed, the ridiculing towards said heat lovers was abundant in high summer this year, with constant dismissive comments like "You can't expect 3 weeks of solid 25-30c, we don't live in Spain" and other iterations, simply because some people expressed their frustrations off at how virtually all of July and half of August panned out from a sunshine and warmth perspective.
Bear in mind, I say this as someone who enjoys both hot and cold weather - I've got no dog in the fight.
I'd love some proper snow this year, and more frosty conditions, but our maritime climate unfortunately puts pay to that so often. Same as it often does for prolonged, warm and sunny conditions in Summer. I'm not gonna mock cold-lovers if those conditions don't materialise this winter, though. It's easy to say "You can't expect -10 and snowing for days. We don't live in Trondheim or Montreal!" but that just carries on facilitate the same pointless back-and-forths...
Anyway, rant over - it's a shame how weather preference disparities always ends in some sort of one-upmanship.
Unless they're gloating about it, no need to mock someone for their weather preferences. Folk enjoy what they enjoy
