  1. Total fiasco tonight. Storm hit Hailsham before we even got in the car, drove to Seaford to catch the incoming storms, which fizzled. Went home, just about to go in the house when it kicked off big time in the Channel again. Clear skies overhead guaranteed a great view of the towers from the coast, but by then we were knackered and out of petrol. Anyway, just wen through tonights damp squibs and saw this: Could be scud, but the way the cloud seems to wrap around that area, and the crop shows up nicely that distinctive little notch in the cloud to the right of what I think is a funnel. Probably brief I would guess.
  2. Thanks If I'd only turned up sooner. There was a brilliant elevated light show that I watched from the passenger seat as we headed over to Seaford, very frustrated that I couldn't get it on camera!
  3. A few from last nights storms, from Seaford. Unfortunately I was late to the party, If I had turned up just half an hour earlier I would have caught much more, better prepared today.
  4. Thanks Yes it was worth the wait, I'd nearly given up and gone home.
  5. Better late than never: Here's that timelapse of the shelf cloud making landfall, taken from Seaford the other day. Looks a bit odd as I'd only taken 11 shots, had to make the best of it. Seaford Shelf Cloud.mp4
  6. Another pic, this one of the shelf cloud arriving last night, from Seaford. I have a few pictures taken over a couple of minutes, so I'll make a timelapse and post it when it's finished.
  7. The first of last nights pics from Seaford. Unfortunately the lightning was a good distance away and these are heavily cropped. I have more pics as the shelf cloud came in, still going through them. EDIT: Caught the ferry arriving in first pic
  8. I have some pictures of just that area as it came in, going through the pics now. I was by that funny little (art piece?, monument?) that has some blurb written on it about the windfarm. (I don't know Seaford well)
  9. We parked up in Seaford and sat on the beachfront for a couple of hours. Was well worth the wait even though the storm hit just west of us. At 4.30am the Mothership finally made landfall. Wind whipped up and lightning very frequent. Most of it elevated but enough to illuminate the cloud and show up the structure nicely. Noticed a very large branch down in the road in Jevington on the way back, torn clean off the trunk and blocking half the road. Did wonder if there'd been a brief tornado touchdown. Back in Hailsham it was largely dry, but continued to watch the lightning to the west as the sun came up. Managed to get some distant lightning and cloud structure shots but nothing great, will post them later after I've ploughed through them all.
  10. Anywhere between Bexhill and Beachy head, unfortunately petrol won't allow for any further but should get a decent display in the Channel either way.
  11. Lightning caught me by surprise here in Hailsham. A few flashes and rumbles as it headed out into the Channel Had a go at picking out the tower with my thermal imager, got some of it:
  12. You must use the correct technical term; it's "Much flashy-banginess" If it looks good for the South coast nearer the time, I'll be set up on the beach at Pevensey Bay, or anywhere from Beachy Head to Bexhill, depending. I've managed to get hold of a Sigma Mini Wide II lens, circa 1980's and in mint condition. Very much looking forward to trying it out.
  13. To use the proper meteorological terms: Much flashy-rumbliness here in Hailsham.

  15. My sister is in Herts and just had an absolutely crazy storm there. Kitchen flooded, water pouring through the roof and the chimney was collapsing. She just had time to run across the street with her mother-in-laws dinner before the next heavy rain hit.
  16. Raining in Hailsham. A few rumbles from the mushie to my NE.
  17. Sorry, I don't mean to further derail the thread here, but I can't let this go. I have decades behind me of meteor shower-watching and photography and I can tell you categorically that these are not meteors. First of all, meteors do not meander about in their path the way these objects do. Second: only fireballs (larger meteors) appear on camera for that length of time and they are rare; most meteors burn up in a second or far less. Third: it doesn't matter how high the resolution of the webcam is, it's only going to look as good as the stream allows. Fourth: artifacting is common in poor / low light conditions when using digital webcams as they tend to use a lower shutter speed and the nature of ccd's. This accounts for the "fiery trails". It's extremely common to see this, often with distant insects at night. Fifth: If you break down the video into frames, as I have, you'll notice that the object "disappears" during a bright lightning flash. During this time the exposure changes to compensate. As the flash dissipates, the exposure cranks up again and the object "reappears". I hope this settles the matter.
  18. Just finished off last nights Indian. Wish I hadn't as can't move now. Lightning getting closer here, much rumbling.
  19. Now getting going in the SE, just as predicted. A lot of distant flashing and rumbling to my WSW from Hailsham.
