Imagine if we had the bfte at this time of year. I reckon we would be seeing nearly double digit negative daytime lows. Same happened in 1987 I believe parts of Essex and the east didn't get above minus 10

Looks like you are about to be under it for hours yet. Infact you may be in a better position than those down south with the precipitation moving north

Also I haven't seen a single gritter about anywhere today not even in main roads. You would think if we know snow is coming someone at the council would it's honestly baffling

While the low may be further south the actual snow is moving alot further north and faster than expected

Strange event the snow looked like it wouldn't start till at least midnight here before now it looks like it will be over in about 10 minutes

Not a fan of how quickly the snow band is moving north would hope it stays longer

The snow has been very light here abit jealous of those a few miles south with the heavier snow. Reckon as it slowly pivots north the channel could come alive?

Sleety snow here not settling rather odd considering I'm away from the coast by a few miles. Hopefully as the evening progresses it will transition? Any other reports from Essex?

Looks promising in the channel ATM lots of energy perhaps the low is forming already

Looks interesting Sunday and Monday for potential snow in our region as the Easterly flow hits

Although the icon doesn't show any precipitation there certainly would be snow piling into the south east with the strong onshore flow cold uppers and still warm water.

It's possible but I haven't seen a scenario like that in my lifetime at least. It happened in the very cold winter's like 47 and 63 I believe but it's very rare that a low coming of the Atlantic falls as snow and then stays as snow. Some places in the mountains it still happens but for most especially in the south it's something of a myth now. I would be happy for it to happen but it can only happen under extraordinary circumstances

Really don't get the enthusiasm for frontal snowfall from the Atlantic. Surely some of you know by now that nearly always results in warmer uppers being drawn up? I live in the south and yes heavy snow for a few hours is cool but it will certainly put a dent in future cold prospects not to mention it will melt within hours or turn to rain. Let the cold stay and build and there will be suprises no matter how slack the flow or how high the pressure. Gone are the days of snowstorms from the Atlantic they always end in slushy failure

Will take cold over the risk of snow and low pressure from the Atlantic. As long as it's cold there is always a risk of snow as we live surrounded by water.

That's regarding tropical Cyclone formation. A low pressure will form whether it's tropical or not.

Could create orographic snowfall.
The ideal scenario for those in the south East. Guaranteed snow over streamers which are hit or miss. This is providing the Atlantic low actually misses us of course

In that scenario with the 1000mb or so low over the continent it would certainly be throwing us some surprises. And without the worry of milder air afterwards with it all being snow

These are the type of events that interest me the most and give the most suprises. Depending on how far the front extends north to how heavy the precipitation is and local conditions maybe some surprises
