  1. I think most Atlantic storms form in a similar way really. Big temp difference fire's up the jet and makes any lp's more potent. Where they undergo strengthening and weakening really depends where the jet takes them although much like hurricanes they almost always start weakening quickly when they're over land.

  2. Was there actually a sting jet? If anywhere did experience it they would've noticed as it briefly increases max gusts by 20-30mph.

The wind has finally died down to just a light breeze here after a few heavy, blustery hail showers. Almost 24 hrs of gale force gusts, I don't remember that happening any time in recent years. Glasgow and Edinburgh both recorded their highest gusts since 2013.

I agree that the matrix is an important part of the warnings. But, I'm wondering whether you're more highlighting an issue in the communication of the warnings and the matrix system itself, rather than anything else. I mean, if so many people aren't reading the warnings properly and potentially misunderstanding them, is it their fault or the warning's fault?

A warning ought to be as crystal clear as possible from the headline really, if you need to delve into the inner workings to see what's going on, I'm not sure that's ideal.

Not Meto bashing by the way, as it's a difficult thing to get right, but the one thing a warning system ought not to be (imo) is confusing.

I feel like it's a bit of both. If people are misunderstanding the warning system then maybe it should be made simpler. It should absolutely be tidied up a bit when there are multiple warnings as it just looks a mess and you can't even click on individual warnings now.

  4. This has been downgraded a bit on recent runs, at least for inland areas. At one point it looked like being worse than Isha for Scotland. It's now at 50 - 60mph inland and maybe 70mph in the Amber areas, mostly around the coasts. Probably more like a typical winter storm although potentially a bit more damaging given its only 2 days after a stronger storm.

  5. Still gusting into the 40s here at the moment, if it continues until 3pm that'll be 24 consecutive hrs where max gusts never dropped below 40mph.

People can only really describe how a storm, snow event etc was in their area and how it affected them. Personally I don't have any problem with people saying it wasn't that bad for them or in their area. It's much more annoying when people question how bad it was in someone else's area or suggest it was worse or better than they said.

  6. It was the longevity more than anything else that made it a notable storm here. 10 hrs of 50mph + gusts between 5pm and 3am and 60mph + between around 9:30pm and 1am. The peak gusts were around 70mph but never quite made it into the 70s where I am so it wasn't one of the most severe storms I've seen but it was still a step up from a typical winter gale.
