  1. A bit snowier looking than half an hour ago but the band of ppn. seems to be sinking south? Seems determined to give the M74 corridor through South Lanarkshire down towards Moffat another pasting!
  2. Coming down thick and fast now after a bit of a gap in the snow ‘blob’. Still very lean looking compared to photos of higher altitude and more rural locations, but all surfaces now have snow cover again.
  3. Coming down pretty heavily now but not really lying at the moment - is quite wet and sleety so far. Having thought I had the towering altitude of 80m asl it turns out to be barely 60m asl!
  4. Yes, just melting into the ground though. Seems that bit milder than Tuesday. Decided yesterday just to stay put at home today on the strength of the forecast/warning - wonder if the heavier stuff lurking out west will justify it?
  5. A nice wee report on Channel 4 News there with Alex Thomson in Leadhills and Wanlockhead - looking more like somewhere in Scandinavia or Canada with a foot or so of snow round the villages and covering the golf course. Can be seen again on C4+1 starting at about 8.45pm. Some pretty scary footage of the high winds in the Netherlands too.
  6. The guy who installed that webcam posts on here (moffatross?) - I believe he is involved with the Lowther Hills ski club, which should get some action at the weekend. The two villages in the area (Leadhills and Wanlockhead) only have a population of a few hundred each. Was up there in December and it was difficult to park the car because all the lay-bys and parking spaces were full of snow, but there is definitely a fair bit more now than the pre-Christmas snow.
  7. Should hopefully turn to proper snow later as the heavier stuff arrives...if it gets this far. Reporting Scotland weather earlier suggested they thought the ‘Hamilton area’ might be at the northern limit of the snow...oh, the suspense! Not sure how much attention to pay to the automated forecasts which suggest it might make it a bit further north. Will be using the time honoured ‘look oot the windae’ method to check!
  8. The Reporting Scotland forecast suggested that the snow on the northern flank might miss Scotland altogether, whereas the national forecast still had the track of the system further north with snow as far north as the Central Belt. I suspect the snow warning area for tomorrow night might slip south a bit, but going to adopt the ‘wait and see’ method...once there’s actually snow on the ground it seems to matter less!
  9. A modest amount of snow here during a quick once around the block this afternoon, but caught the edge of an intense shower a few minutes ago, although the intense stuff associated with the thunder seemed to move SE towards the Lesmahagow/Muirkirk /Douglas area.
  10. Flash of lightning and a rumble in the distance here too, so might be in the path of the thundersnaw!
  11. This is a slightly blurred view of the snow in Motherwell from 20 minutes or so - there’s more now. There was almost nothing when I got back about 2pm.
  12. Yeah, back from Glasgow now and this extended heavy shower is lying well and has made things look a lot more wintry. I wonder whether this evening will live up to the belated amber warning.
  13. Heavy wet snow in the West End of Glasgow. The pavements on the quieter side streets are treacherous, semi-frozen with a layer of slippery wet snow and slush. Looking at the overall picture, although lying snow is limited in places, I'm amazed there was no amber warning.
  14. Was definitely sleety as that heavier shower moved through but might need to be patient with this one. If we don’t get any ‘real’ snow I’ll be throwing my toys out of the pram!
  15. Your efforts are appreciated! - I quite regularly check the Leadhills cam and the one up on the Lowthers to see how conditions are for walking in the area. Snapped this one back on 15th December a couple of miles down the road in Wanlockhead - the coming week might make this snow cover look like a mere smattering depending on the track of the low midweek.
  16. I notice that it’s on the bottom rung of the likelihood matrix though (‘unlikely’). In which case why bother with the warning at this stage?! I suspect they are being a bit non-commital due to possible marginality, with the air travelling a fair distance over the sea. Will be interesting to see how this one evolves.
  17. Ended up in the gap between the two splitting bands of snow here, so little more than a smattering compared to Glasgow, which reported 10cm according to BBC weather. Heavy rain forecast later this afternoon too - ah well, it’s been a good wee spell of winter weather and it’s nice to see the photos from around the country.
  18. Yeah, it is a nice route with a bit more character than the usual plod up from Fallburn (although the fields at the bottom are usually muddy unless there’s a particularly cold or dry spell). Believe it or not there was a small avalanche off the south side of Tinto in the 2009 cold spell, but not enough snow to worry about that at present!!
  19. The first one looks like the quiet route up Tinto from the south? The hills around there have caught more snow than further west. It’s not often you see the Pentlands looking quite so Alpine.
  20. Yeah, was down that way today, the Lanark-Biggar area up towards the Pentlands looks to have caught a few hours of snow in the early hours, although not especially deep. Was slightly surprised to wake up about 5 ish this morning and see everything white - snow and fog. It was snowing just before midnight, but dissolving straight into the ground. First lying snow this winter in this part of North Lanarkshire, although only 2 or 3 cm. The Clyde is very high after yesterday’s deluge so there’s odd bit of minor flooding too. All now icing up, of course.
  21. The airport is something like 10 metres above sea level - on flat low-lying land which is to the west of the city and not a great place for snow. I doubt the temperature is that much different from here though.
  22. Definitely wet snow here about 10miles outside of Glasgow, at about 80 metres above sea level. Ground is soaking wet but a technical White Christmas! The webcam at Leadhills (400metrs above sea level) shows snow starting to lie there.
  23. That’s a very strange map - there must be something in it as the Crail area is the only part of Fife without snow, however Dundee has been replaced by somewhere called Kozaksville!
  24. Met Office has added a yellow warning for snow in NI, Wales, much of Northern England/Midlands on Sunday, with only a small bit of SW Scotland included, so seem to be going with the more southerly track. Still time for change of course, and hopefully some more snow chances over the following few days.
