If the Met Office don't escalate it, then the Police don't do things like close the snow gates on the A66, hundreds of folks then get themselves stuck on Stainmore Common in a blizzard, and everyone shouts in the tabloids "Why weren't we told?!"

Yes and agree for higher routes but don't think warnings were required for the coast , hardly ever are down here to be fair !

  2. Wednesday 21 Dec - Friday 30 Dec

Early in the period and around Christmas conditions are likely to be less cold than of late though still rather cold in the north. Temperatures in the south more likely to be around average. Spells of rain and stronger winds are likely at times, these mainly impacting central and southern areas. Some northern areas are likely to see wintry showers. Away from the north, any snow will probably be restricted to hills though there is a chance snow could fall to lower levels. Towards New Year, there is the potential for a more settled spell bringing overnight frost and some morning fog patches before a trend towards changeable but probable a little milder condition around the turn of the year.

You couldn't make this up, a week long freeze and we get a weeks worth of fog.  What is going on in the teesside area that seems to effect snow falling? That's a serious question too!!

Just not been our week tbh . The wind direction has not helped . I think initially it was a northerly to NE winds forecast  which would have drove these showers in . To see the huge clumps drift past out sea is hard to take but plenty of winter left and we will get our turn .

I will say the fog and ice / frost has made it much more seasonal compared to other years so that's been a plus point
