  1. Dartmoor doing a great job of breaking up the cloud in South Devon. It's now sunny in Torquay. If it keeps going we'll get a good rest of the afternoon here.
  2. Finally the first real spring day today. High of 15.8C with only a light breeze. And it wasn't cold when the sun went behind a cloud. We have had a few nice days here and there but up until today they were spoilt by cold wind.
  3. Wonderful cloudscapes today and lots and lots of sunshine. The great thing about today was that the air temp still felt warm even when the sun went behind a cloud. What a difference a day can make it was freezing yesterday!
  4. I popped out to get some bread earlier and from the hillside I thought I could see a tornado on the ground over towards Plymouth/SW Dartmoor way. I ran back home to get my canon, I didn't realize I could still run that fast at my age I literally legged it. But when I got back, it was only about 2 minutes later there were multiple one's and I could clearly see they were very thin rain shafts. But minutes ealier when there was just one it did look like the most tornado thing I'd ever seen! Got this though which was nice:
  5. South Devon lighting up but not heard anything in Torquay yet.
  6. They're passing over very fast and then the sun is coming out quickly. Great cloudscapes, an amazing day for watching the sky.
  7. Wonder what the wind will do to the new spring leaves today? Fortunately many trees are just coming out although as usual Horse Chestnut are earlier than most so they might get some damage. Of the others Magnolia are usually the first somtimes flowering here in January. Looking around the hood two days ago the first two pictures are Horse Chestnut and the third Magnolia (at the bottom of the cliff). The Magnolia even still has some flowers on it.
  8. Looks like today will be the last of the bad weather and it could be a very interesting day depending on how things develop.
  9. Just started up in North Cornwall. Quite a few strikes around Bude from this:
  10. Seeing quite a few strikes in Wales down to Bristol Channel over the last hour.
  11. Tomorrow looks fantastic. A good amount of UV too.
  12. I wasn't going to post this but since the thread is so depressing at the moment then here you go. The first UV3 I've seen for 2023! It's time to chear up everyone it's going to get a lot better over the next few weeks.
  13. Heading in. https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=ae0258 The world’s most powerful meteorologist, the WC-130J is configured with palletized weather instrumentation for penetration of tropical disturbances and storms, hurricanes and winter storms to obtain data on movement, size and intensity. There are only minor differences between the Hurricane Hunter aircraft and any other C-130J. Operated by U. S. Air Force Reserve Command, the WC-130J usually penetrates hurricanes at an altitude of approximately 10,000 feet to collect meteorological data in the vortex, or eye, of the storm. The data collected by the WC-130J makes the advance warning of hurricanes possible and increases the accuracy of hurricane predictions and warnings by as much as 30 percent.

  15. All the good stuff I saw was out in the Channel heading east. It was still building too.
  16. This event here is now over. We had a few loud thunders and strikes a couple of days ago but that was it. The best part was as it cleared away this evening the sunset left behind was one of the best i've seen for a long time. I hope everyone had an exciting time this week!

  18. Storms heading towards Torbay just now. A decent rooftop view from this cam: https://www.camsecure.co.uk/torquay_harbour_inner_dock.html
  19. Just noticed the sea temp in Torquay is now above 20C!
  20. I hope we see something out west this afternoon. Here in Torquay we've had full sun for 3 hours now and temps are up to 24C. Cloud is going up all around me. First pic looking west, second looking east.
