Probably the best single lightning I’ve ever seen here in Soton!

I've not seen a convective forecast yet but it starting to feel oppressive and it's getting more humid as the day goes by, so fingers crossed. The clouds did look taller from where I was but I think I was overzealous with the height
I was just thinking the same

I am Witney as well and it is a plane from Brize. Been flying round for the last 30 mins! All this stuff on the South coast should be with us by 1.30am I reckon if it keeps going. Seems to be expanding on the Western side
Realised it was Brize soon after I sent that Flashes are crazy though! Heading straight for us!

Can see distant but frequent flashes looking south from up here in Oxfordshire...and a constant distant rumbling like planes. Weird! Should get good later on!

Was too far east for the original predictions, and now too far west for SE storm...I can't win

A few charts from the 9z AROME ensemble. First the ensemble me mean, showing action across a range of south western and Southern England,
What's interesting is that the 90% chart (meaning 90% point on the probability distribution ) brings this right through the centre of the UK (this is a probabilistic model)
On to CAPE, and here's the mean
But here's the 90%
My take (and I'm NOT a storms expert),is that if this is going to go big, it will go up the middl of the south, the A34....we will see.
I am way okay with that!

Expecting storms from midnight onwards - simply because it's my birthday then and I was born in a thunderstorm. It's a running joke in my family that it's always thunder and lightning on my birthday! (Which it frequently is!)

Hi all, am looking to purchase a lightning detector - or other weather recording device - for a reasonable price. Was wondering what you would all recommend! Thanks

A lot of lightning strikes the radars aren't picking up! Pretty much right above me now - thought this night was a bust but it definitely isn't! Am filming so will post clips/photos later!
