I think he may mean tonight...well that's what I am looking for. Is it that area over Cumbria?
I think the snow we have now is the band that will develop as it moves south, its' certainly different from the sleet/hail showers we had eariler which had started to die away before this snow arrived. Still going strong here, and oddly is on course to be the best accumulation of the, well, winter..
-
Very large flakes indeed, we have a measurable depth of snow- about 1cm
-
Band of showers arriving in cumbria is snow, it did rain about 1hr ago, but now snow and settling
-
Drew or anyone on high gound in the cotswolds - whats going on at the moment- much new snow? - I'm away from home due to return at 5 to birdlip, but in London now where it is dull
-
Excellent snow, quite a breeze drifting the snow to a couple of feet in places, first time I've seen that for a number of years, still snowing well now, so places NEE of glos look get at least a few more hours yet. About 4'' of level snow atm

Just noticed this thread, I thought I'd add a note. This, or a part of this storm came through here (6 miles south of gloucester) at something like 2.45 in the afternoon, fairly normal apart from there was a hell of a gust at the back of the storm which blew out a couple of fence panels (which have survived many years in our exposed site.) Within in a minute, all was almost dead calm

to assist me in seeking out suitable locations
Hi Enforcer
I see you found the solution! I lived near wallinford, a mere snow ball's throw from you until a couple of years ago - I deliberately selected the most metologically promising place to move to - higher ground further west - it has been very successful, with both winters being snowy several times, most effective on those annoying 2degrees above freezing days with sleet all day - I know when I get back up home they'll be heaps!
In answer to your question, was in Nov with a single best fall of 5 inches, measured properly on open hardstanding.
good luck!

I think we'll start warmish, and then cool off, but only wih a breif cooler spell mid month, before warmth arrives oround the 25th.
based on this speculative interpretation, I'm going for 12.3

Had 1cm from yesterday's heavy snow shower, which cleared through by about 6 in the evening.
Very nearly 6 months now from the first lying snow of the 'winter' last Nov
-
I'm (guessing) a very average 8.2, with some warmth later in the month
-
Had 3cm here overnight, very powdery. Not a lot has fallen since though. Stayed pretty cold all day, might be the coldest March day here?
-
Very surprised to be getting a great snow shower at the moment, very heavy squall of soft hail now followed by heavy large flaked snow. complete cover of snow in just 10mins!
The showers seem to be getting a little further east and heading towards Swindon
-
Yesterday's snow stopped at around 8Pm, leaving us with 5.5cm of wet snow, which this morning is frozen hard. Overnight snow has added 3 or 4 mm to the top, and now going sunny - second best day since Nov for us.
Don't think that we are likely to get anything further today, the air is quite dry

On journey across berks and wiltshire just now, at 1pm heavy snow was falling around Swindon, Settling well at Lambourn, and even down to about 120m (all but Swindon town itself).
Cotswolds not quite as cold, as snow lying only above 250m, but we do have 1.4cm now and the snow is pretty steady, moderate to occasionally on the heavy side (it's snowing a 6 out of 10 for intensity at the moment)
-
Snowing for a couple of hours now, heaviest bits about a 5/10 on a made up intensity scale, now about a 2, temp is 1.4 and stopping any settling save for favourate surfaces such as glass.
-
Seems to started to widely at the same time, very light snow here for last 10mins, with just the odd (well maybe 10 in total!) proper snowflakes.
-
Unchanged since last night, min -2.9, now surging ahead to er..-2.8!
misty, vis about 500m.
Last night I poured a bucket of water on the patio to check it really was cold, and sure enough it froze when I checked a little later, but this morning its all evaporated, or sublimed, despite being misty and thus near 100% humidity? Seems a little odd.
-
As others have noted, temps have been falling during the day - its' -1.1 here down from +1 this morning. Does anyone know why?
-
Sat - about 0.5 cm from about an hour of quite heavy wet snow, but Sunday was rubbish with rain all afternoon, lost all the lying snow by dusk.
-
Slightly better dusting following a ever so slightly heavier snow shower in the last 30 mins, maybe close to 0.5mm on the ground in places..
-
Very light snow here for last 10 minutes, with the tiniest dusting of snow in a few selected spots
-
Just been out to measure the snow - 14.5cm deep now in the middle of the lawn away from anything. It was just 6cm at 5.30pm this evening, has really piled up and still snowing hard.
Saw the bbc 6pm news weather - 1, 2 or upto 4cm was suggested on the hills..
I think wilts and hants might see more than they currently are thinking, as it is plenty cold enough(-1. up here.
-
5cm overnight here in gloucestershire, and -1c at the moment. pretty amazing as we only had our first frost about a week ago!
Snow on the way? April 5th onwards cold snap

Just nipped out to look around, and took my special snow measuring ruler(!).
1.2cm on the car roof. Very sticky snow, stuck to vertical surfaces well.
