Anyone else get woken up in the night by rain hammering against the window? The overnight radar shows some really heavy stuff went through in the wee small hours.

Me and my dog are getting fed up being buffeted by strong wind now. Bring on a nice sunny anticyclone please. Next week shows potential, but for those of us who are now looking for warmth and sunshine rather than cold and snow, we could do with the high shifting a bit further east to avoid chilly winds and cloud off the North Sea.

Yes, I'm in Bordon, East Hants and at around 1:00am I believe, my house was absolutely shaking from the wind.  It woke half the street up as when I was looking out my window I could see everyone with their lights on.  On my way to work this morning to Horsham, there looked to be quite a few trees down and branches snapped in the surroundings.

Looks like the Met office warning will be fairly good, the amber zone doesn't look huge but where it does snow for a prolonged period the snow will eventually add up. Remember it will snow on and off in that amber zone for the next 24hrs at least.

Sadly the game was up for us lot further west a good 24-36hrs ago when the models shifted slightly further east again.

As I said, if your west of C.London, be prepared for a cold but more or less green (or brown if you got mud!) week rather than white.

We have had the lightest of snizzle for the past 30 minutes of so in Gu35. Looks like someone is grating polystyrene.

I'm around 110M up, it does seem to sometimes make a difference in very marginal circumstances. Driving down the A3 on last Monday it was pretty clear the difference even an extra 5-10 miles inlandf made as well as any height.

It started sleety, its just turned pretty much to pure snow in the last 10 minutes or so.

I went to Devils punch bowl last Sunday morning which was a very wintry experience. I'd imagine over 200m this would be more or less pure snow up that way now.

I was tempted to go that up again this afternoon, but not sure it was worth the effort for a small marginal fall.

My drive to work is from Bordon to Horsham and it really did and does. Over the winter I have seen dustings on the ground up near Hindhead and Haslemere, where 10 mins down the road in Bordon we have had nothing but the wet stuff.  Last Sundays event was definitely good for our side of the county though as driving across the Surrey hills the margin line seemed to be Plaistow. Went from white to green pretty much round one corner. We basically have snow now to.

I know I shouldn’t take them too literally but it worries me a bit that the bbc & Meto forecast shows snow tomorrow morning for us (hooray) but sleet by midday!

    temp -0.3

    dp -0.1

I'm down the road in Bordon and it looks like 7 miles south, Petersfield is showing the transition to sleet and rain. We've had literally nothing in the way of snow this year and really am hoping the margins are in our favour tomorrow. It would be nice to walk in the forest with snow falling and the crunch under our feet! Fingers crossed.

  5. Hope everyone had a great Christmas. I was poking my head into this forum every now and then. I think regarding that Monday low, we really have to wait and see with regards to Bella passing through. I dont think we will have too much confidence till tonight if not tomorrow mornings runs. I will be fishing 6am tomorrow morning until Monday evening in Surrey, so it'll be what touches my head is the weather. Interesting model watching for the short term  that's for sure.

It would be nice if we got summers like 2013 and 2018 more often, but then of course the climate change brigade would be driving down our throats.

I would love it if the UK had a Mediterranean climate with 25C summers and 15C winters. Would be wonderful but it will probably not happen for thousands of years sadly.

Aslong as that 25c is in the south becuase if its 25c up north we will be sweltering at a 30c summer. Air con units would go through the roof. The tropical nights are definitely something we would have to adapt to!

Very annoying, I feel for you. Hopefully it won’t be as bad as they think it will be. Strong winds in summer are a right pain for allotments. My Mum and I found on our plot that it wasn’t so much the sun/warmth that dried out the soil, it was the bl**dy wind!

I would usually agree but the fish in the rivers and fisheries have suffered so much lately due to the high temps and low oxygen levels. The rain we have had recently and the high winds have cooled the water down and got the oxygen levels on the rise. As a regular angler, catch and release only, I am very happy for the early autumnal weather at the moment. Indian summer on the way wouldn't be to bad though .

  8. I have a feeling this year the storms may be dodging me. Working in horsham today, there was nothing but sunshine and clouds building, to unleash its wrath a tad north. Whilst at home in East hampshire, a huge storm was erupting for the missus to enjoy, but not record for me. Get home and miss it by 30 minutes. Was interesting to see the temperature go from 36c in horsham to 22c, 35 miles down the road. Fingers crossed for something to pop up out of the blue in the near future. At least the cooler weather allows me to get back on the bank and get fishing again.
