The caravan site at Cannich has/had Glamping pods and I'm sure it's open all year. Should be cold there too.

As expected from a westerly flow, nothing more at home overnight other than a frost. It was around -2/3C at 7:30am and pretty much below freezing all the way to Fochabers.

Nice to see others getting in on the snow action. Been anything 'doon sooth' yet, as I don't dare check the banter thread just in case?

    I’ll look into it.... thanks

Glenmore (next to Loch Morlich) have a camping/caravan site - walked past it a few times.

    Very snowy up there currently.

Thanks mr frost, unfortunately glamming pods I’m looking for as it’s a bit cold for the tent or the 4x4  it’ll most likely be mid next week I go.... knowing my luck, probably as a mild front comes in

  3. It'll be typical i end up missing the snow this year after getting a new 4x4/offroad toy to be playing in.

Is there any good glamping sites up north people recommend, where i'd have a good chance for a lot of snow? I know of the eco camp, and braemar caravan site ones, any others? Sorry i know its a bit off topic.... but it's all in the spirit of snow ❄️❄️

Finger crossed for you all to get a good blanket... my fingers are crossed for Friday...

    The latter unfortunately.

The models seem to have been forming a habit of teasing, then snatching away the last few weeks. For that reason I'm no longer believing anything beyond 3 days until further notice. That's just as well since beyond 3 days doesn't look terribly interesting if its widespread heavy snow you are after. Plenty of cold, but snow probably localised and fleeting.

Met Office must be seeing something we can't if thier long-range forecasts are to be believed, so be patient and pray.

Thanks for the reply, I thought that may be the case, I get the horrible feeling I’m going to miss any large snow events for us... only home from Wednesday until the 13th then back to work till either the 27th of feb or the 6th of March. Which by then, we’ll have no doubt had the event, if any!  But I guess time will tell.... just hoping I get lucky!

Can't see any chances of proper snow next week in the Lothians, but you'll definitely have more luck as you head west and then north.

Thanks for the heads up  model reading isn’t something I’m very good at yet, but I wasn’t holding out for all that much. Do you think there will be anything central Scotland wise before the middle of February... if not the second week in March onwards is my next hope haha!

but yeah, I thought that sort of direction would be the way to go, I’m sure it’ll be well worth the drive

  7. Much better thread for seeing the snow chances up here... extremely excited at the thought of getting plenty of snow. I’m due back onshore on Wednesday flying via Sumburgh, so hopefully nothing will stop the flights as I want home to enjoy whatever snow we get. I’ve got a new winch to fit to the front of the 4x4 as soon as I’m home.

If there isn’t a big amount of snow around the Lothians while I’m home, I’ve got a route planned to go up north for a few days and I’ll take the camera and make the most of it....

Braemar should do okay for snow this evening.

Blizzards expected for parts of Scotland today above 300 meters.

Unfortunately I'm offshore until the 30th so hoping for some once I'm back again, will have a few days away up north if need be

As expected, Met Office issue yellow warnings for snow and ice for large parts of Scotland.

    Latest update from MWIS:

    PLANNING OUTLOOK

All mountain areas of Britain from Tuesday 22nd January 2019

The colder conditions will continue across the mountains over the next week or fortnight - perhaps longer. Mountain temperatures will frequently be sub-freezing, often to lower slopes in Scotland, although from Thursday to Sunday this week, there will be cycles of freeze and thaw Scottish Highlands, whilst elsewhere, summit temperatures will most often be above freezing point. Precipitation wise, there will be further snow, albeit some melting periods later this week. Next week, there may well be extensive fresh snowfall, substantial in some areas.

A glimour of hope that I'm going to grab on to... If there's not much forecast for next week around West Lothian, then maybe a few days away in the 4x4 up braemar area snow hunting will be on my plans

Just spoke to a Seniro Operational Meteorologist for the Met Office, and they are still going for cold (like the long range forecasts suggests)

I don't think it's over until UKMO starts jumping ship.. Hoping it'll stay firm, and the others start to follow.

Does that include into February? Or mostly for the end of January only?

  11. New to weather charts, despite having an unhealthy obsession with snow, they’re not something I’ve took the time to fully learn and understand yet, but I had to sign up today after lurking for a bit, I can’t believe how active these threads are, and even though I don’t understand a massive mount from the charts, I get a lot from the comments!

Praying for extreme snowfall and the charts come true.... but I need to be a bit selfish, and hope we don’t get too much until I am back onshore on the 30th... I don’t want to miss it or get delayed  the first two weeks on February would be perfect for me..... even longer if possible, but I guess those charts are in fantasy land until 3 or 4 days before?.....

oh... and hello fellow cold lovers!
