  1. Similarly to what others have said, the storm that passed over Brighton is the most severe I’ve ever been caught in. First ever time I’ve had to run for my life whilst filming. CGs striking meters away from me, 70+ mph winds and considerable sized hail. Definite rotation as well.

I will upload my footage once I’ve transferred it from my sd card.

  2. I was at Brighton sea front for around 35 mins. Lots of CGs (or cloud to water) and a few deep rumbles of thunder, but most of it seems to be heading east. Going to look on my camera to see what I’ve got.

In my opinion, this system will weaken considerably as it travels over the channel as there’s just not enough energy to maintain it. It’s now just rain here in Brighton, refreshing however after today being so humid.

  3. I’m becoming more pessimistic for later today after reading both Convective Weather UK and ESTOFEX’s forecasts.

ESTOFEX have put the SE at a level 1 with heavy-consistent rain being the primary reason. Although, they have put the SE in a 50% lightening zone. Their forecast really isn’t that exciting.

Dan at Convective Weather Weather forecasts a slight chance, with the condition that breaks in the clouds are needed to trigger any decent convection. However, mid-level flow will weaken as the afternoon progresses reducing speed shear which will lower the chance of cells popping up in the evening. It’s not ruled out though.

This afternoon is going to be reliant on now casting and radar watching, as in my opinion the conditions aren’t present to confidently predict where storms will hit.

  4. So, yesterday I believe to have caught what looks like a funnel cloud over the outskirts of Windsor.

At around 17:30 a large anvil topped formation was heading towards Dorney from a SW direction.

Then exactly half an hour later (18:00) this formation was passing over Dorney. I noticed some upward motion  at the cloud base and what looked to be a funnel cloud started to form. The funnel cloud only lasted around 2 or so minutes.

If you look at the structure above I would hazard to say there is a mesocyclone present. Although, the atmosphere wasn’t particular potent in terms of energy, the shear environment was adequate for such a system to form.
