Climate change: Will naming heatwaves save lives? - BBC News

Seems to be a sensible way forward, although by definition you would also want to do the same for cold weather

For me personally I think it’s a bit silly and pointless but that might be because i follow upcoming heatwaves with interest.

It might work better for older or vulnerable people who might take more notice but i still don’t think it would have the same impact with the general public as naming wind storms due to people enjoying hot weather more.

  2. I love hot weather but 40c and above is a bit much and would prefer temps of around 28-32c.

I went to Las Vegas a few years ago in June and they where having a heat wave with temps of 112f / 44c and it was like being in a oven, due to having mild asthma i found it hard to breathe at times as the air was so hot and dry.

On the day i went to the valley of fire the forecast was for temps of 111f but the tour guide who was driving said his car thermometer hit 117f/47c which was pretty uncomfortable as the air con wasn’t the best and started feeling sick from the heat.

I am looking forward to seeing if any records get broken but at the same time i think it could be pretty unbearable for some people.

  3. Current bedroom temp 27.9c with 49% humidity. The the max yesterday was 29.3c but was around 27c when i went to bed, the low last night was 26.5c.

Luckily i am able to sleep fairly well with those temps.

The hallway is currently 24.8c so a bit more comfortable but still warm.

I was surprised too at the extremes today -

-1.7C the min this morning but 11.8C at just after 13.00. The weather station is in quite a sheltered spot though, that does warm up when the sun's out.

My station is also fairly sheltered but as my garden is a a south facing sun trap it hit a high of 13.8C after a low of -0.7C, on the 12th it got even higher to 15.2c.

Unfortunately my station needs to be located close to a fence due to the garden layout so it could have affected the high reading.
