  1. Yeah you are right. My first and only experience of a supercell was in Orlando,FL and it really was something special to witness. It was that exciting and unlike anything I had ever experienced that I am contemplating going on one of those Storm Chasing trips to Tornado Alley. I guess I just got over-eager at the thought of something similar occurring this side of the pond, that being said, nearly all of the convective forecasts had my area in a severe or high-risk zone. I guess with all the variables at play in convective formation must cause the models to struggle, especially since it is not something typically experienced in the UK.
  2. Absolutely gutted with the lack of any thunderstorms where I am. The Convective outlook forecast, and many posted on here had my area (Glasgow) right in the high-risk, or severe zone for convective activity. As it transpired we didn't even get a drop of rain. Has to be the worst experience I have encountered in my weather-watching career. I was so excited all morning and early afternoon at the possibility of experiencing a supercell--but I would have settled for even a brief display of fireworks. To get absolutely nothing was a real kick to the gut. I guess though its part-and parcel of having this hobby, I just couldn't believe that with those near astronomical CAPE values--for the UK--that nothing kicked off. I don't expect atmospheric conditions to be like that again for a long while, I doubt we will get any convective activity for the remainder of the summer.
  3. Can someone give me an idea as to when the severe thunderstorms are going to start developing over the Midlands, N.England and S.Scotland? All the storm forecasts refer to this, but insofar, nothing. Cloud is building up here though and 30*. Immense heat(Glasgow)
  4. Hi all--long term lurker here finally decided to start posting. I nearly choked on my breakfast when I read the storm report for today, especially this part: "Strong deep layer shear, with some backing at the low-levels, suggests a couple of supercells will be possible, capable of producing very frequent lightning, large hail 3-4cm in diameter and, if storms can remain surface-based, the risk of a tornado or two". I can't recall a time in the past when tornados have been forecast in my area. I am in Glasgow, and in the last hour cloud coverage has notably increased--something is definitely brewing. I experienced a supercell for the first, and only, time while on holiday in Florida. To say I was awe-struck would be an understatement. I never thought I would get to experience one in my back-yard, the fact that some major convective activity is forecast has had me on here and similar sites all morning. I will keep you all updated about how the conditions are up here, pining for some whip-cracking lightening and deep, deep rumbles of thunder like an artillery barrage. Knowing my luck it will all end up happening 20 miles or so from wherever I happen to be!
