  1. Durham AWS now sitting at 36.0c. We'll see how the official obvs compare to that tomorrow, But as Durham Weather said already, the record has been obliterated. It's been smashed out of sight.
  2. Cheers, I was wrong about the 32 in 2020, it was 30.8 on July 31st.
  3. Yeah the AWS high was 32.4 so pretty close to each other. Pretty sure Durham has had a 32.5 in 1990, and a 32 (maybe in 2020) as well as the 32.9 high, though I'm probably wrong.
  4. 35.2c in Durham at 12.57... That's nearly 3 degrees higher than the max at the same location yesterday, and still feasibly a couple of hours warming to go.
  5. Happened all over the North East too. I saw a reading of 29c at 8am 367m up, whereas low ground stations were 22 or 23c.
  6. Wow it's actually 31c at Lanehead on top of the Pennines.
  7. I know Loftus is an official station but I'm not convinced by their readings. It's right on the coast.
  8. Nearest ones would be Durham University and Copley (though it's on high ground). I do think that readings from Airports would count though? Teesside Airport is very close to Darlington.
  9. Yesterday the Met Office was forecasting 40c today for Leeming, that's only about 25-30 miles due south of Darlington.
  10. 31.2c in Durham. According to the Durham County road weather cams the temperature at 10.40am at Lanehead, 1,500ft asl was 30.1c, and at Forest In Teesdale, 1200ft asl it was 30.4c
  11. Yeah they've always recorded 0900-0900 and would need to stick to that for continuity. It's a massive shame but it is what it is. Also, if they made an exception so they could insert the 25.9 as a new record minimum, they would be accused of fiddling figures to suit a climate change agenda.
  12. And the North East. I'm under cloud (Newton Aycliffe), slight hazy sun from time to time with a moderate breeze. Still around 28-29c in the local area though. What I'd give for a few hours of clear blue sky, time is running out!
  13. This is happening across the North East in incredible style. Pennines are baking already, inland valleys cooler by some way. At 8am most low elevation stations were recording 22 or 23c, but higher elevation stations much warmer. I looked at the road weather stations and Forest in Teesdale at 367m was at 29.1c at 8am. Lanehead at 450m 27.6c at the same time. Never seen anything like it.
  14. Oooosh, 32.8 at Durham is almost unprecendented - it really struggles to ever top 30c in the good old NE! I used to have a personal weather station in Newton Aycliffe - sadly it died a couple of years ago and the best temperature I recorded was 30.8 a few years ago - and during the 2006 heatwave I got 30.3c. So this is a new level altogether. I've been looking at some of the Durham County weather/traffic cams today - best temperature I saw was Bradbury (near Sedgefield) at 33.7c. They use Vaisala instruments so you can count on those figures really. Even Consett hit 31.2 and Tow Law 30.2!
