@MATTWOLVES 3 I have literally never interacted with you but have of course seen your sad news on here tonight. So sorry for your loss. We lost my father in law this time of year 6 years ago. It really makes the feelings at this time difficult to process but just know whatever you go through over the coming months is totally normal. Please reach out if you need help. I’m sure the entire community is with you x

The constant up and down of this topic never ceases to amaze me… doom and gloom one day, positivity the next. It’s bad for your health!!!

I think this is a statement repeated nearly every year at this stage in the year, most recent years since 2010 have showed an outlook like this - exception 2013, and 2021, but never cast aside anu chance of something wintry appearing however fleeting, most years deliver at least a burst of something cold and wintry at some point Jan-April, I include March and April... its still early in the season and the coldest part normally occurs mid Jan to mid Feb, mind may take something to beat the early cold we had in December which was a rarity.
I'm often left disappointed due to my location (Lincs coast). Had a small flurry in December and most years we barely see any snow. Even in the December to remember we had the two days of snowfall then nothing for the rest of the month. Though snow was on the ground for a few weeks. Anything after Feb tends to last a day before it melts so always seems a let down. Yes my expectations are too high lol

With nothing remotely cold on the horizon it really does feel like we've had our cold this winter. Chasing cold in February really is last roll of the dice

Once the cold left the UK a quick reload was never going to happen, despite 1000 posts wanting it to lol.

Snow and ice have finally thawed after one entire week on the ground. Heating went off last night for the first time in 10 days. Able to open up and air the house. Cellar is useable. Bliss!
Enjoy it... I suspect you'll be having this for a week or so...

Absolute mild dross now for the foreseeable... 11c as I wake up today and widely double digits most of this week. Can't see the cold returning anytime soon. Some are really clutching.

For all the northern hemispheric synoptic prettiness, the outlook is zonal for the UK and not 'cold' zonal (apart from maybe Scotland). There's no getting away from that now. Sorry but it had to be said.
Yup... We're done. Mild and zonal until the new year I'd say.

Yes there is evidence of a more typical pattern coming at least for a while.
I posted in the Strat thread a couple of days ago of the warning signs .
Ah sod it then... Let's just meet back here next year.

Indeed
Hmmm... Background signals, though important don't always come to fruition. The science is flawed, if it wasn't we'd always know what's going on.

Sobering news on twitter thread with views expressed from respected sources that strat and trop are trending to couple sooner than expected. Leading to enhanced jet stream and more traditional zonal pattern early January onwards...

I’m intrigued what does GWV stand for ? is that a drink or medication as coldies might need it to get through the current drama !

Anyone else noticed that when you scroll up and down the screen there's little snow symbols been added? I keep thinking my phone is smudged and I keep scrubbing to try and get em off! If you don't allow yourself time to laugh you will eventually crack up folks..so make the time even if its just once a day! It helps...Trust me.
I think the mogreps 12s are on the mend..some colder runs now emerging.
Come on guys get with me
Haha I literally did this earlier... I wasn't wearing my glasses and thought it was me

Is the 06z delaying the mild a little or is that just me?

There’s a few GEFS 12z members which could spell Victory for coldies around Christmas time! … keep the faith! V for Victory!
At what point do we have to say we're clutching at straws??? I mean... As long as there's hope we can hope eh???

Looks like all models, apart from GEM, are singing from the same hymn sheet day 7, staying mild next week away from Scotland, which looks like it could pull in some cold air from the north. Though 12z EC det looks like it could go on to good things after day 10.
End of the road for getting cold arctic air down across all the UK next week and back to the drawing board? Maybe too much spread to discount something like 12z GEM just yet, we may see the cold arctic air get further south yet, but the low moving away from New Foundland early next week and phasing with the upper trough close to our NE appears favourite for now. Unless the models are completely underestimating l blocking near Greenland and its potential to encourage mid-N Atlantic ridging.
Was only on here an hour ago and we were cold? Christ almighty people throw the towel in too easily.

Wow... It's really getting quite annoying now isn't it? Cold one minute, mild the next.
Perhaps for Xmas it's just going to be average? I dunno... But it seems that people take each model run as the final determining one. It'll be alright... And if it's not, it's Christmas.
I bet it's 4c and dry Xmas day.

Winter 2023/24 Chat and Discussion

Another Christmas of absolute weeble weather! Same thing year after year. 13c forecast here on Xmas eve… I’d be happy with that in Spring! I just lose interest in cold weather after December which I know is ridiculous as we rarely get cold or decent cold for Xmas. Still…. It negs me out.
