  1. Let's see if this stuff is any colder :wallbash:

I would have thought it was merely elevation - they say center of Chelmsford has 1.5 ins which is not far off what I show in my picture (1 ins?) - compared to 4 ins on the "hills", if Essex can be said to have those.

But... Bradwell and Southend have 3 inches? Doesn't make sense on my theory, unless they had even more PPN... and I had a lot. spectacular and scary with the wind for just a while

Side note - to the north of South Woodham is a hill, called radar hill. wonders if that has micro climate effect?

Essex has 1 hill and that is Danbury! I think it is abount 200m asl. I have always wanted to live there, not just becuase they have more snow in winter!!

  2. Heres your map to show the location- you probably already have one similar-

Currently there is a warmer plume of air that has moved up through Central Europe into Finland & Norway- giving them milder temperatures-

You can see on the 850 temps that its warm relative to the norm-

The green 0C will be the equivalent to above average temperatures in that region-

    At T 120 ( day 5)

You are seeing a lot more Colder air pushing off the greenland Shelf & spread Eastwards, this will begin to effect the FAR northern extremes of Norway & Finland-

Day 6 & 7 it looks as though the predominent flow for that area is Westerly, which will be enough for lapland at least to sit in Artic air, & you should see the webcams start to turn back to white- however there is a sharp cut off from Polar to less Cool Maritime air pushing through Central Norway & any slight shift in Wind direction will keep the polar air away from even the Northern Coastal areas-

A mild outlook then - at least for 4-5 days, then the prospect of something colder which hopefully will reach lapland just before you leave..

7-10 days looks good at the moment as both the GFS & ECM models show a progressivly colder pattern evolving-

    Steve,

Any chance of an update, from my basic understanding it looks like it is going to cold or very cold for the foreseable future (which is what you would expect for Lapland!), what I really want to know is what are the prospects for significant snowfall this week.

From what I can see there is a threat of snow for much of this week particularly Tuesday and Wednesday, with low pressure dominating for much of this week.

There is only generally a few inches of snow lying where we are off to so some more snow is desperately needed.

    Cheers

  3. Help, I have booked holiday to Lapland (LEVI) for a week on 6th Dec. Just checked the cams this morning and I am panicking as it is raining.

Is anyone able to provide an insight into the weather (for Finland) than can be expected in the next 7 to 10 days and hopefully provide with some reassurance.

    Cheers

    Simon

I have just notice that I have posted this to the wrong forum, unfortunately I am not sure how to move it! Could a moderator please help?

    Thanks
