  1. I was living near Amesbury, Wilts before moving Pagham in August 2015. For me, the year 2014 was the most thundery since 2006. Of particular note were overnight storms with frequent lightning of 13/14 June from an MCS moving, exceptionally, from a NW'ly direction; then two consecutive nights of activity 17/18 and 18/19 July, again with very frequent lightning. Although September was a very dry over the country as a whole, there were further storms at times from the evening of 18th to the afternoon of 19th.
  2. First thunder here since 28th August. A couple of C-G strikes not far away as storm passing to my west and south-west. Rain not too heavy here at the moment.
  3. Still no thunder here this year yet, although we had some useful rain from showers recently. Sunny here at the moment, but I saw this cb top in NW quadrant a few minutes ago.
  4. Only had light rain in the last couple of days or so - just cloudy yesterday and today. I watered the garden this afternoon, the ground is so dry. Still avoiding the storms I keep reading and hearing about this month.
  5. I thought that I was thunder deprived here in Pagham with just 4 days in 2020 - all minor occasions, 2 each in April and August. Yet to get off the mark this year so far.
  6. Recently had good hail shower lasting over 20 minutes, largest hailstone up to 6 mm diameter, but mainly small ones.
  7. I remember that time in 1968. I was at school in Essex at the time. Friday 29th March that year was so warm and sunny, but on Tuesday 2nd April, we were in an Arctic airstream with lying snow, and I fell off my bike delivering papers that morning or the following morning.
  8. 5 days of sleet or snow falling this meteorological winter and a partial cover of lying snow on just the 8th and 9th February here.
  9. The only solid precipitation I observed this weekend was a shower of small hail at 0730 am. Missed out once again.
  10. Very little wintry precipitation or thunder here compared to other places last year. 3 days of sleet on 28th January, and 28th and 29th December. 4 days of thunder. On 16th and 17th April during both evenings, storms approached from France but died out whilst still distant. On 16th and 28th August (these also minor occasions), but a reasonable lightning display during the evening of 13th August.
  11. First wintry precipitation of the winter period 2020/21 here and the 2nd day of it in the calendar year 2020. Sleet mixed with rain observed after 1600, so 2020 will no longer have the joint (with 2002) lowest number of days of sleet or snow for me personally.
  12. The 2nd consecutive sunny Christmas Day here, but in the late evening this year, there was a well marked total lunar halo; A sign of a deterioration no doubt.
  13. A sunny but chilly first day of meteorological winter here. Hope I get more wintry precipitation than during the last winter period (including Autumn 2019 and Spring 2020). The only occasion was a little sleet for a couple of minutes or so in a shower during the afternoon on 28th January.
  14. I also remember December 1962 prior to Christmas with its persistent fog. I was living in NW Essex and attending primary school at the time.
  15. Been sunny here throughout the past 3 days. No fog. This must be the most fog-free place I have ever lived in.
  16. I don't like this time of the year. It is a time of seasonal decline and the weather is so often very unsettled.
  17. I have a this photograph in the Observer's Handbook (1962 edition), which I had as a boy.
  18. Only thunder heard here since April was on 16th and 28th August, and that just 5 rumbles in total.
  19. A couple of discharges to my N'ly. No precipitation here at that time, but Downs obscured by very heavy precipitation.
  20. Brightening up here now after heavy rain. Just 3 distant rumbles of thunder with the rain.
  21. Still no thunder since April here, but frequent distant lightning in Northerly direction in late evening. Heavy rain this morning, very welcome for local gardens.
