Too far west here again last night. Just occasional flashes during the overnight.

A few clouds floating around but mostly sunny and hot. Just starting to notice its getting a little darker (and only because Im watching for it) as the partial eclipse is happening.
Very disappointing here. Only got the odd very fleeting glimpse of the eclipse. Alot of low stratocumulus and stratus meaning very little sunshine today.

Oh yes these dates are etched in my memory! The 28th June storms were more impressive here, after the humdingers on the 24th... but the ore storm humidity on 31st August was some the most unpleasant I’ve experienced in this country. Positively steamy!
I moved from Bulford near Amesbury to Pagham near Bognor in August 2015, so always in southern England in recent years.
In my experience, after the thundery year of 2006, there has been a general downturn in the incidence of thunder with several quiet years. Only 2014 has come close to 2006 in its thunderyness.
I also remember 2005 storms on 28th June and 31st August. I also remember 24th June that year being a very thundery day when I was working at Larkhill that day - one storm after another.
-
I was living near Amesbury, Wilts before moving Pagham in August 2015. For me, the year 2014 was the most thundery since 2006. Of particular note were overnight storms with frequent lightning of 13/14 June from an MCS moving, exceptionally, from a NW'ly direction; then two consecutive nights of activity 17/18 and 18/19 July, again with very frequent lightning.
Although September was a very dry over the country as a whole, there were further storms at times from the evening of 18th to the afternoon of 19th.

First thunder here since 28th August. A couple of C-G strikes not far away as storm passing to my west and south-west. Rain not too heavy here at the moment.

Rained on and off all evening and at times overnight after a thoroughly dismal day and was still raining when I got up this morning. Stopped raining about 9 a.m., but still cloudy.
Only had light rain in the last couple of days or so - just cloudy yesterday and today. I watered the garden this afternoon, the ground is so dry. Still avoiding the storms I keep reading and hearing about this month.

Finally some nice convective skies around in Worthing.
It has been over a year since I last heard thunder here, and that single clap of 2020 proved to be the one and only. Here's hoping for a better year this year!
I thought that I was thunder deprived here in Pagham with just 4 days in 2020 - all minor occasions, 2 each in April and August. Yet to get off the mark this year so far.

Recently had good hail shower lasting over 20 minutes, largest hailstone up to 6 mm diameter, but mainly small ones.

My time-lapse of 30th March 2021. Fantastic Spring Day!☀?
Got up to 21.0°C here in Northants and 24.5°C at Kew Gardens making it the warmest March day since 1968!
I remember that time in 1968. I was at school in Essex at the time. Friday 29th March that year was so warm and sunny, but on Tuesday 2nd April, we were in an Arctic airstream with lying snow, and I fell off my bike delivering papers that morning or the following morning.

Small hail about 1630 for a minute in heavy shower.

5 days of sleet or snow falling this meteorological winter and a partial cover of lying snow on just the 8th and 9th February here.

A few hours ago, I heard the deeply distressing news, that my Son Antony passed away, in his sleep overnight.
Antony was in the advanced stages of Huntington's Disease, which is a genetic and terminal illness.
Antony inherited the condition from his Mother, my first Wife.
He would have been 40, next Month.
He passed away at Home, where he lived with his Sister Hayley, and her Boyfriend.
I realised that Antony was only a matter of Months away, from being placed in a Care Home but thought he might still have another few Years of Life to come.
It obviously was a tremendous shock to hear the news of his passing, from my Daughter's Boyfriend.
I have just put an In Memoriam post up in that Thread, to Antony's memory.
Regards,
Tom.
Please accept my sympathy at this sad time.

Snow here at last! A light incomplete cover.

The only solid precipitation I observed this weekend was a shower of small hail at 0730 am. Missed out once again.

Very little wintry precipitation or thunder here compared to other places last year.
3 days of sleet on 28th January, and 28th and 29th December.
4 days of thunder. On 16th and 17th April during both evenings, storms approached from France but died out whilst still distant. On 16th and 28th August (these also minor occasions), but a reasonable lightning display during the evening of 13th August.

First wintry precipitation of the winter period 2020/21 here and the 2nd day of it in the calendar year 2020. Sleet mixed with rain observed after 1600, so 2020 will no longer have the joint (with 2002) lowest number of days of sleet or snow for me personally.

The 2nd consecutive sunny Christmas Day here, but in the late evening this year, there was a well marked total lunar halo; A sign of a deterioration no doubt.

A sunny but chilly first day of meteorological winter here. Hope I get more wintry precipitation than during the last winter period (including Autumn 2019 and Spring 2020). The only occasion was a little sleet for a couple of minutes or so in a shower during the afternoon on 28th January.

Ah yes, Christmas 1992, I remember that now. I recall waiting for hours in the gloom at Preston bus station for my mum who was coming to spend Christmas with me at Blackpool. Not a good start to the holiday!
I also remember December 1962 prior to Christmas with its persistent fog. I was living in NW Essex and attending primary school at the time.
-
Been sunny here throughout the past 3 days. No fog. This must be the most fog-free place I have ever lived in.

Indeed WG... Yesterday sums up all the things I despise about autumn: it was cold enough to be irritating, windy enough to be irritating and, yes, wet enough to be irritating...
I don't like this time of the year. It is a time of seasonal decline and the weather is so often very unsettled.

I was on night duty observing at Hertsmonceux on 31st May/1st June 1983. It was one of the two most thundery night shifts in my career in the Met Office- certainly dramatic. The other very thundery night shift was 24th/25th July 1984 also at Herstmonceux.
