I suspect I may wake up to fence damage tomorrow going by the sound of the wind which has ramped up in the last hour.
Will be in for an interrupted night's sleep as one of the dogs really doesn't settle if it's windy outside and lies shaking next to me. May pan him off to my son's room for the night as he seems to settle there better.
Not looking forward to the morning commute even though the east coast will be less affected than what the west sounds like it's going to be.
Stay safe everyone.
Edited to add touch wood, so far the power's been stable...long may that continue!

I had the best commute of the week this morning on near enough 100% black tyre width tracks, was in the office at the right time for a change.
Temperature at home currently 4.5c and DP 0.7c, slightly cooler in Stonehaven at 3.8c but cloud cover is building so might warm up a little.

Temperature has risen steadily since the overnight low of -4.2c to 1.7c currently so looks like the thaw has set in here in Banchory. Now looking forward to the hunt for the next episode of sna but if we could get some blue skies in between, I’ll be happy.

Hopeful of a second ice day this week. High today of -0.4c at 1.30pm, temperature dropped to -3.6c around 6pm and has risen since to its current 0.9c. DP at -1.4c and sna continuing to fall, decent sized flakes too

That’s the sna on again in Banchory, and the wind has increased judging by the angle that it’s falling at. I wonder how much I’ll be clearing off the car in the morning

Currently -4.0c and DP -4.7c under clear, starry skies. It’ll be interesting to see just how low it gets overnight.
Dogs aren’t impressed with being thrown out for a last pit stop before bed…probably not helped by the fact I clipped them just over a week ago so no extra fur to keep them warm

Slug was actually the best option. AWPR was nightmarish according to colleagues on their way south from a meeting at Thainstone. Just drove sensibly and made it home in around 45 minutes, would probably have taken twice as long going the other way.
Think we had around 3 inches this afternoon without actually measuring it. Quite a difference from the 1st photo taken at 2.55 to the 2nd taken at 4.35 as I was leaving.

Hi all, London day trip and flying back in couple hours hopefully. Aberdeen not too bad? Selfish question!
Looks like it has all been a bit hit/miss!
Chilly and dry down here.
Photo on Fubar taken by someone flying in to Dyce, guessing it’s worse than that now tho

No ice day at home, my station showing temp has risen to 0.3C with DP of -0.9c.
Nearest weather station to my work is showing current temp of 0.0c and DP of -2.6c. We have very fine grains/flakes falling lightly too so fingers crossed there’s something more substantial at home.

Come on, have you seen the wee boy that is employed to clear the snow? He looks like he couldn't lift a couple of big macs at the same time never mind shovel some powder snow! (I watched him while I was there one day last year with my son after a hospital appointment

Overnight low of -6.2c at 5.35am then temperature seemed to jump to -4.5c within minutes (cloud cover maybe?). Fell back to -4.9c and now rising again, currently -4.6c (DP low -7.0c, now -5.6c). Not yet opened the curtains so no idea if anything fell overnight. Came home over the Slug road last night which was drivable so will attempt it again this morning.

Absolute blizzard conditions now.. the kids have had a brilliant time out at the field..
Dog walked in sunshine, a cracking day.
Bet you’re glad you moved inland and gained elevation?
Morning commute was challenging, didn’t chance the A957 but went A93 to A90 and that was dodgy enough for me. Cracking day in Stonehaven, clear blue skies followed by heavy snow showers then back to sunshine. What more could we ask for?

Heavy shower ongoing when I was up to the loo 20 minutes ago. Temperature now -2.1c and DP -3.0c.
Edited to add that Fubar News on Facebook is already busy with road reports, looks like the area had a really good pasting overnight

Son not long back from Aberdeen and said roads are particularly treacherous so those of you heading in to Aberdeen via Westhill in the morning, you have been warned. I'm not particularly looking forward to my commute over the Slug road to Stonehaven but thankfully, our soil sampler dropped off two crates of soils this afternoon so back of car is well laden. Between that and reasonably fresh set of all-weather tyres, I'm keeping my fingers crossed it won't be too tricky
Currently -1.0c and DP -1.5c with some reasonably heavy showers blowing through.

Back to the matter in hand, temperature falling gradually, currently -0.5c and DP -1.3C. In between showers at the moment, but hopefully won't be long before next one arrives. Looking at the radar, Banchory definitely seems to be on the border of the current stream of showers coming in from the NW.

Off topic when there’s far more interesting things to talk about, but is anyone having issues with Wunderground keeping logging them out? No idea if it’s a setting on my iPad or if it’s something they’ve changed on their website but it’s frustrating the heck out of me now

Looking at radar there seems to be a heavy band heading straight for my house.... come on i want a blizzard..
Hope it doesn’t while you’re at the fitba, you might nae get hame
Only the slightest of coverings here, looking at the radar it appears to go green as soon as it goes over the house annoyingly. Temperature is up and down, anywhere between 0.7c and 1.5c currently, dew point is following the same up and down pattern, currently 0.1c.
I’ll report back later should any white flakes begin to fall

What. A. Day! Left Livingston around 12 and finally got in the door at 5.30pm. Rain wasn’t too bad on the Lothian side of the Forth, it was wind that was causing the issues. Once over the bridge, the rain got worse and traffic slowed to snails pace north of Kinross due to water on roads and trees down. Things cleared once past Perth through to Dundee then the cross country adventure started. A90 closed at last roundabout out of Dundee so took the Emmock Road then a magical mystery tour on country roads until we reached Forfar.
Hindsight is wonderful and I should have turned round and headed for the A92 towards Arbroath and come up the coast road. Once we got to Forfar, rejoined A90 and carried on slowly until we reached Laurencekirk. No need to worry about average speed cameras as at no point was anyone above 15mph. Ended up turning off towards St Cyrus and going over the Garvock hill, still areas of flooding but nowhere near as bad as in Angus. From there, up the coast to Stonehaven then AWPR to Kingswells and finally out the B9119/B9125/A980 to Banchory, all downed trees from earlier in the day having been cleared.
I’ve never experienced such bad conditions on the roads before in my 30+ years of driving and if it wasn’t for the fact that I had to come home today as my hosts were heading to Islay, I would have delayed my plans. I hope everyone in the Kilted group managed to stay safe and have been unscathed by the ravages of Storm Gerrit.

No broken bits I hope. A&E will be busy today!
Thankfully not, just very soggy clothing from landing in the puddle that was covering the ice. But yes, I think A&E departments will be busy.

Congratulations @Northern Strath, in some ways this time of year is the best time to have a new arrival as you can just hunker down for a couple of months. My not so little one turns 28 this week and arrived in snowy conditions back in 1996.
A wee bit gusty outside just now, pressure currently 994 and temperature 9c.
Flight from Seville to Edinburgh has had a change of plan by looks of it, no idea where it's heading as climbed back up to 33,000 feet and out over the North Sea.
Switching off for the night now and keeping everything crossed that there's no damage here in the morning.
