Well what a day here in Swansea! Pouring with rain and 3.5c at 8am this morning. Started snowing on higher ground at 9ish and by 10.30 snowing heavy just about everywhere! The biggest chaotic situation that I have ever been involved in then ensued with gridlock throughout the city and beyond! Two mile journeys were taking people up to 4 hours (I kid you not!) and the council gritting teams were totally caught off guard. Lorries jack-knifed and cars were abandoned on our busiest of roads and all schools were closed post haste! Police advised drivers to make only essential journeys and every hilly area in Swansea was basically impassable. There was even laying snow on good old Swansea Bay sands! The cause of all this? About 3-4 inches of snow which admittedly fell very intensely. Amusing how quickly the end of the world seemed nigh in a winter wonderland. Fair play to the Meto though they did actually put out a last minute severe weather warning but nobody in low laying areas could possibly have believed it given the relatively mild start to the day! Just shows how unpredictable our great British weather is!
