  1. I'm currently over in the fields on the old Hassocks golf course just behind my house and it's absolutely nuts over here! The dog took one look outside when I opened the door and thought sod that! Wind is starting to veer round to a more south westerly direction now.
  2. Would be pretty hairy on the i360 or the end of the pier right now! The waves at the marina must be pretty decent as we are approaching a high tide now!
  3. It's very strong here too and I'm a good 8 miles inland with the South downs as a bit of a windbreak so must be pretty intense in Portsmouth. Would be really strong up on the ridge just north of Portchester for sure!
  4. Not at all surprised at that, it's not far off that here now in Hassocks in the strongest gusts. Likely to be higher directly on the coast by the beach huts at widewater lagoon.Every chance of it exceeding 70mph in gusts comfortably directly on the beach and at the top of beachy head I wouldn't rule out 80mph gusts there as it's over 500ft above sea level and totally exposed!
  5. There are s fair few but fortunately not too many down near the bill on the far south of the Island. The majority of the property is from the centre towards the north of the Island is protected a little by the highest point but houses on the west side of the Island can take quite a lashing. I go away every year to Dorset and visit Portland every time and the weather on the far south of the Island is certainly comparable to the highest point on Dartmoor in these conditions! I've been on the summit of Dartmoor in a named storm too and also Bodmin moor and the wind gets so much stronger with exposure and elevation!
  6. I'm not at all surprised,it must be really strong in Shoreham right now. I know Shoreham well its one of my port's of call when imports move in from the channel and I swim there a lot too. I welcomed storm Eunice there earlier this year from a sensible distance on the beach near the west harbour arm and it was nuts.I watched the storm roll in last week under the veranda of perch restaurant in lancing just along from your locale and it was really intense too. I saw one strike hit the sea only a hundred metres or so away and the thunder was explosive. But it was the wind's on this as it moved in which left a marked impression on my 20 plus years of chasing storms, one of the most potent day time storms I've ever seen without doubt!
  7. It's bad here now too in Sussex, I'm roughly 8 miles inland and wind gusts here are certainly in excess of 50 mph in the showers and that's being potentially conservative so could well be higher! Not at all surprised Portland has exceeded 80mph it gets very fierce there because of it's exposure. Was on Portland a few years back in a named storm and I've never seen the sea like it! The waves over the Portland tidal race and around pulpit rock were absolutely astonishing and I had a job to even stay on my feet!
  8. Evening all bit of a late post. Some very active weather for some of us tonight, some very heavy showers moved through here over the course of the evening. Will be very minimal lightning with this but I'm very impressed with the wind speeds and certainly the gusts here in Sussex now. I'm approximately 8 miles in land from Brighton and Hove and have the south downs as a bit of a windbreak but wind conditions here have really ramped up in the last hour or so. There's likely to be some exceptional wind speeds reached in gusts on the south coast in the next few hours as the centre moves across. Just had a very squally shower move through with a few minutes of sustained very strong winds, trees in the main road nearby still mostly in full leaf and moving around quite alarmingly! And just had another one move through with even stronger winds! Will venture out on foot with the dog when the centre is nearer to my locale and see what it's like in the fields near my house, slightly higher ground and fully exposed to this wind direction so should be pretty lively over there.
  9. I remember you posting this Tamsin,a truly massive strike, one of the best I've seen on here! Thanks for sharing again!
  10. Great video and a brilliant chase too, well done mate! That storm almost certainly is supercelluar at the start of your footage and the first picture of your stills clearly shows this. There is a distinct wall cloud forming within that structure and also a very strong updraft present too. Thanks for sharing this with all of us and keep chasing too! Cheers.
  11. I thought I recognized it,I stayed there 4 year's ago in one of the lodges on that hillside. Ironically,I watched a passing storm from the hot tub when I was there. Saw some big CGS over towards the Verwood area so I was able to stay out there the whole time, the veiw across the Avon valley is awesome!
  12. That's awesome well done! Looks like you are possibly at sandy balls in godshill near fordingbridge if im not mistaken!
  13. Same for me too mate just down the road in lancing. Was under the veranda of the perch restaurant on beach green and it was insane!
  14. Just been under a particularly savage storm on lancing beach, had a really strong gust front and some close shotgun thunder! Absolutely unreal for October!!
  15. Afternoon all hope everyone is well. An absolutely biblical amount of action crossing the channel right now. For the time of the year this could be pretty special so heading down to Shoreham by sea with my son to see how things unfold. Good luck all who are out to chase.
  16. It's a very slim chance but the weather can always throw up a suprise or two at this time of the year. But I'm not too confident if I'm being honest.
  17. Thanks buddy and to be fair it's at very best 50/50! Probably less! Some coastal areas on the south coast may get a small light show but it's just not quite right at the moment. The front has stalled somewhat which is reducing my confidence of any sort of event so unless the front moves further north then I'm only radar watching for the foreseeable.
  18. I knew for sure that this wasn't nailed on by any means and was at best a radar watching situation. The radar shows it petering out as it leaves the coast of France so instability is still a fair way off our shores right now. That front needs to be a good few miles further north to enable the plume to get across the channel in my opinion so certainly not feeling too disappointed with the outcome so far.
  19. Good shout mate and exactly what I'm doing. A rather borderline situation here tonight but over the years I've seen setups like this evolve into some pretty decent storms unexpectedly. We'll wait and see.
  20. Some developments around the channel Islands in the last half hour or so too so the trigger is there, just need that trigger to drift North a few miles!
  21. Plenty of preliminary instability on your photo there, great shot! I'm not ruling out a possibility later, now feels rather close here in West Sussex.
  22. I think as southern storm has mentioned storms may do well to reach here tonight but development around the Cherbourg peninsula currently is worth just keeping an eye on for the next few hours. If the stars start to align I shall be heading out to investigate so if we get lucky then best of luck to all that go out tonight, it's been a productive spell for all us storm heads here near the south coast!
  23. I was lucky,my dad liked a good storm so I've been watching them now for over 30 years. Nothing wrong with a chase in the garden or up the park, seen some really good one's from the park which is only 50 yards from my house. I recommend getting a dry robe and waterproof trousers you don't get wet then. I always take them out when I chase because I go to some pretty exposed locations. Wait till you start driving lad you'll see so much more!
  24. Holy sh*t that's absolutely colossal! Saw one in September 2006 just off the North coast of Crete like that and it even made me slightly scared! I'm glad it was 10 miles out at sea and I'm glad I wasn't on a boat at the time! Constant thunder for 2 and a half hours!
  25. Great shots Lu. I could see that shelf cloud from my spot on the south downs here just north of Hove and it looked massive! The one we had here was about half the size at best!
