Actually for Bromham I don't think a direct hit was the right term!. We seemed to be right under the point of building. Customers of mine saying barely no rain in Olney which is about 5 or 6 miles away and from checking the radar I can't believe we were in like the ignition point.

I like to have a storm where it builds on you and also when you can see it come in from elsewhere.

However also hopeful any surface water flooding isn't doing to much damage round here and in Kempston been out in Bromham and seems OK but quite hilly here.

In Biddenham and it built right overhead and then as it moved east it got worse but the rain was biblical

I have seen some amazing storms on the coast and I've had some amazing storms over Bedford.  Where we live sometimes we have storms practically develop over us (which happened in August) but mostly storms break up as they hit my area and then re-built later up country. I just think it's the part of the area i live in. Snow is another example.

I would love to see a shelf cloud like people in SW have seen. Not jealous, at all.

I was always told that living near the chilterns if the storm didn’t get in it would travel around and hence miss places in Bedfordshire. Don’t know if that’s possible?

Yeah eyes on that here too.

I’ve got my eye even more on the stuff just starting to form further up the coast into Norfolk (Fakenham sort of area) - if we can get that to form into a streamer that will hopefully be pretty much bullseye for us with a NE-ENE flow.

Should be an interesting evening, not expecting more than a covering here and hoping to be pleasantly surprised

Will have a look, temp dropping here and dew point now -3c so that will be enough. Certainly developing situation. Still we were quite lucky the other week. Fingers crossed.

This is a good sign - I suspect this is the start of the convection which has formed showers to your north starting to work it’s way south. There may well be a fair bit of this over the next few hours where the snow seems to start without anything showing on the radar (given the 10-15 min delay on the radar vs current time)

Keeping an eye on a possible line of showers around the Kings Lynn area that are heading inland. Hoping they will last. What are your thoughts?

  5. Hi, do we think that Bedfordshire is too far west for tomorrow or will there be a late swing to show it moving more to the west of the region? Is it just a case of now casting when it starts a bit like the other Sunday when the front moved further north than predicted and we got about 5cm. Appreciate that was from the southwest and not southeast. Think we may get more from heavy showers sunday night/monday? What are other thoughts please. TIA

Indeed Nick, I think @kold weather mentioned earlier about previous such events around 2009/2010 which saw this effect happen with some amplification of the precipitation extent and intensity vs modelling when it runs through the estuary, running both North and South.

We could very well be into that territory come Sunday. An exciting 72 hours ahead.

Hi Snowking, being in Bedford also, are we on the edge of the big stuff? How much do you expect us to get. Pretty sure it will be a nowcast but 5cm the other sunday was more than expected. fingers crossed for all
