At least we are still getting spotless days rather than seeing the kind of recovery we could have seen.
I'm not so sure it matters any more? If you look back to the last run of spotless suns around 2010 the winters here did seem to follow the pattern of colder/snowy. This time we've had mild winters with little snow. If 2021/22 winter isn't cold & snowy I think I'll be forgetting spotless sun = decent winters down the line Has climate change broken the pattern? Did the pattern ever really exist?

People in the model thread proclaiming winter over again. We've had many a snow event in March. I said the same when it was apparently over at the beginning of January! Do they never learn? The models don't run the weather....
As for those moaning about the cold, its winter.
Do you moan for snow and cold in August?!

Just a quick one, locations should now be displaying on posts if you're on a mobile.
Yep. A welcome update. Thanks!! Those saying they watch the BBC. Last weekend they forecast snow here, we had rain. Two weeks ago they forecast rain..we had SNOW!
Enjoy the models but you won't know until the DAY!

Hope all you down south enjoyed the snow.
Looks like thats our fill till next winter. Models firming up on on Atlantic smashing through.
Silly to write off a winter at the end of Jan, many winters have featured cold & snow in Feb & March! At least this gave me a fix, 2018 seems like a long time ago. If only it had been another December 2017 event......(or 2010 but that was amazing!)

I do acknowledge some areas have done well this winter, but its been a 150+m asl winter so far.
Simply incorrect! We've had two snow events so far, 60m asl.

Took a few weeks off because the model watching was becoming tiring and rather disappointing, but returned to some pretty dreadful looking stuff from ECM and still everybody seems to be hanging on to charts showing titbits at +300hrs.
Winter 20/21 - the ‘nearly but not quite’ year
Sadly it's the same most years. When will people learn? I get that it's fun watching these models but it obvious they are next to useless! When they get it right it's no different to betting on red enough times!!

Grass will grow with a mean temperature of 5c, so it commonly grows through winter anyway.
I don't know how old you are but during the 80's I used to cut grass as a weekend job. Last cut was normally in November. Not returning until well into the new year. The climate has changed in a big way.

Had about 2 hours of glorious snow, very much like the December 2017 event which started as rain. Sadly this time it didn't carry on and is now a slushy wet mess

My grass hasn't stopped growing, my hedge (Escalliona) that should flower in summer has flowers on it! Our climate really is changing at a rapid pace I'm sorry to say (as a cold/snow lover).

If only today's spot had arrived a little earlier!! Not a bad guess
I wonder what 2019 will bring?? I'm going for 260-280 spotless days....
For 2020 I'm going for 295. Good luck and happy new year everyone.

Is it time to start thinking that any link between low sun spot numbers and colder winters in Europe was either a coincidence or has been eradicated by climate change? I think if next winter is mild my mind will be made up I know this winter is far from over but I would have at least hoped to have seen some snow by now. On the plus side we've had a fair few frosts. Just sick of all this rain...

Did yesterday's spot get counted? Was its polarity SC25? Thanks

At current rates we'd be looking @ ~250. Time will tell

Distant rumble in Shrewsbury. Looks to be over the Long Mynd again.

If past cycles mean anything I would hope the next 2-3 winters see something cooler. If they end up like this year then it looks like any link to low sun spot activity and colder winters is toast Time will tell....

Definitely come back, Prague is so different now to even 10 years ago. The Czech Republic is modernising at a rapid pace. Still plenty of quaint charm though, the atmosphere here is so different to hectic London.
The last 2 days here have been beautifully sunny, with much milder temperatures, especially today, though with quite strong winds. Thus, lying snow is rapidly disappearing. I’m not overly bothered, am starting to look forward to Spring and warmer conditions.
Be great if you could post some pictures up

Went to Prague in December 2005 and had a great time! I'm sure it's changed a lot since then though, would love to go back some time to see! I recall the cold feeling very different to the UK, a very dry cold which makes sense! We went on a trip with a guide who was a Czech English teacher, he told us some good places to look at and sample a proper Czech pub off the beaten track

I think the biggest question is how much "global warming" or "climate change" will play out with this IF we see the sun go as quiet as some expect. Interesting times for sure. The biggest danger IMO is a quiet sun lulls some into a false sense of security and nothing is done to kerb harmful emissions. (which ever way you look at it pumping the atmosphere full of gases can't be a good thing!)

It looks spotless now, can't see a thing yet Space Weather claims there is a small spot! Must be a single pixel! I'm going for 220 spotless days
