  1. Morning all

A while since I have been on here. Too busy with work, and very late nights every day. Now that has eased off it's a struggle to stay away awake!

It was clear here until about 1am, although somewhat misty. But as soon as the eclipse started the clouds rolled in.

I did manage to get one or two shots of the moon with clouds before it completely disappeared. Here they are from about half an hour ago, although nothing to get excited about I'm afraid. If I can find one or two from last year I will post those as a comparison.

  2. These are my first two weather related phots feedback please because these are my first two pictures.

    Welcome to NW, Oliboy :)

A couple of nice entries there for the January competition. The first one shows good use of foreground interest in conjunction with the full moon, and the second one has some gorgeous colours.

Photography is very subjective. Not everyone likes the same thing, as you will see from the voting in the competitions. But if you love taking pictures it will show through in what you take. And you don't need expensive kit, either. You just need a good eye for what to photograph and how to do it to show it off best. Seems to me you have made a pretty good start already. Keep taking those photos - and good luck. B)

  3. Bit late this month, but I just got back from China.

Here are the first batch of entries. Rest will follow when I can choose between them after I have had some sleep.

  5. I spoke to a friend of mine in Shanghai on Windows Messenger ealier today. She said that the rain was so heavy that there had been a lot of flooding in the city and most businesses were closed and few people were at work. She is in a hotel with lots of guests, so staff there don't have the same luxury.

With Wipha yet to make its impact fully felt, I think the effects could be quite extreme for Shanghai and the surrounding areas by the time it is finished. Some of the lovely water towns in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces could be very badly hit.

  6. Hi everybody, I thought I would join your forum and share a few of my photos. I try to spend alot of time out doors with my kids and we always take the camera along. Here are a few of my favorites. The coast Guard ship and Rainbow actually made it on our local weather as one of thier Hotshots. Looking forward to getting to know everyone......

Welcome, Maire. Some beautiful photos there. Very atmospheric. I look forward to seeing some more of your pictures in future.

Just one thing, though. Could you add your exact location to your profile information, please? You can access it via the My Controls area. From the logo on the ship it looks like you live somewhere in the Great Lakes area. Also, are the photos you posted ones you took this month? They need to have been taken in September to qualify as entries for the monthly competition.

well spotted Andy, any ideas how I reduce the pixel size as the resizing link on page 1 is not working?

Rich, if you use Outlook an easy way to resize pics is to highlight the ones you want, then from the File and Folder Tasks on the left of the folder window choose the E-mail this file option. Click on Show more options, and then the bottom option where it says Make my pictures this size. That automatically converts them to the maximum allowable size for NW competitions. When the email is created, just drag the pics into a different folder - as they will have the same name as the originals.

  7. I'm sure everyone has been eagerly anticipating the chance to vote for the August photos. Thanks again for the hard work, Shuggee, and apologies again for being part of the reason for the delay... :o

You can have too much of a good thing however! Several photos in the weather section seem to be duplicated, including my three. While it's nice to have an extra chance of getting votes, you might want to delete the doubles! ;)

Some superb shots again this month. It isn't getting any easier to choose winners.

  8. I was just thinking that the G.O.M. looked a tad busy today. Lets see what a bit of sunshine will do to it all. There's a Mexican blob, Texan Blob and a Floridean blob all growing at quite a pace. No rotation in any of them as I can gauge it.

Love the technical terms, GW. Now those I do understand! :)

They sound more like drinks, though. I think I sank a few Floridean Blobs in Billy Bob's bar in Dallas. Whatever they were they went down a storm. :)

  9. OK, Shuggee

If those two weather pics are ruled inadmissable, how about two from these substitutes? Not sure if they would be acceptable either but then I thought the original two were OK.

Left to right in preferential order. So whichever one(s) are left once you have finished with your red pen!

    Brilliant Blackie,

    A real opportunistic photo.

    Thanks John
