Slug was actually the best option. AWPR was nightmarish according to colleagues on their way south from a meeting at Thainstone. Just drove sensibly and made it home in around 45 minutes, would probably have taken twice as long going the other way.

Think we had around 3 inches this afternoon without actually measuring it. Quite a difference from the 1st photo taken at 2.55 to the 2nd taken at 4.35 as I was leaving.

Glad to hear the slug was ok - my younger son delivers for a supermarket and he was heading to Stonehaven over the slug half an hour ago. He called after he’d just been stuck in his van at a farm delivery near Aboyne - had to get rescued by the companies roadside assistance. He’s growing up a lot driving and delivering in these conditions lol

  2. Moderate snow in westhill now - wasn’t expecting this today. Everything getting a fresh white overcoat 👍

The met and bbc saying another possible 3 hours of this so if it continues in this manner there will be a decent top up for sure. That said - both these organisations have not exactly covered themselves in glory with their forecasts for the central belt going by the comments on here.

Good evening folks. On the 14th of January I will be heading to Dalwhinnie for a week with my wife and daughter for our annual winter getaway in the Cairngorms. We have been rather unlucky in recent years with snow having recently melted or arriving after we’ve headed back to North Yorkshire.

Keeping a close eye on the models at the moment as perhaps this year we have hit the jackpot. Hoping to take a weather station with me this year to keep an eye on the temperatures and contribute to this group if I see any exciting weather.

Here’s a picture of the house we are staying at in Dalwhinnie from the day we arrived last year with the previous guests snowman to greet us from the big dump they’d had the week before. 😂

If the models are correct it looks like you will be making your own snowman this time around. Enjoy your highland break when it comes - gods own country indeed !

Awful flooding at east end of Sauchen straight and on way into dunecht at 11pm-4x4 barely got through.  Do wonder if the ordhead-cluny detour (to bypass the Sauchen a944 flooding) will be open for much longer.  Rain supposed to stop in next couple hours, any longer and some very serious flooding is going to happen.

Meanwhile it was a met yellow warning when in reality it justified a amber considering the atrocious road conditions.

As you can gather a truly minging day with some torrential rain, especially in evening accompanied by strong se winds.  The 7c car was recording this evening highest temperature for the day, and indeed for quite some time.

Totally agree re the met warning - why on earth this wasn’t upgraded to Amber is beyond me. A truly horrendous night of weather in the north east  - numerous roads flooded and reports of cars aquaplaning and off the road even on main arteries like the A96.

Up to Glen Feshie today to meet up with family from Edinburgh. Dull  cold and damp with fresh snow above 1500 feet. Getting there the Moor road was about 1.5c at its lowest point with a bit of blue sky to the north while Glen Feshie itself was around 4c dull and misty.

Putting cows and calves out full time tomorrow but will be feeding them silage as well as grass growth slow

    Dava Moor road ?

Ditto, as much as I love snow I absolutely loathe cold sleety rain and endless days of chilly greyness. I'd quite happily have some warmer weather, especially now that it's getting lighter in the evenings, so more chance of spending time outdoors.

Am exactly the same - if it’s not cold and crisp and/or with decent snowfall then I lose interest in ‘below average’ temps as we enter spring. Would far rather we had some warmer weather to look forward to and enjoy.
