  1. Heading back to my hometown of Nairn for a long weekend later today. Looks like we will escape a fairly bleak weekend of weather here in Aberdeenshire. Looking forward to some bracing runs and walks along Nairn seafront and surrounding areas.
  2. Glad to hear the slug was ok - my younger son delivers for a supermarket and he was heading to Stonehaven over the slug half an hour ago. He called after he’d just been stuck in his van at a farm delivery near Aboyne - had to get rescued by the companies roadside assistance. He’s growing up a lot driving and delivering in these conditions lol
  3. Moderate snow in westhill now - wasn’t expecting this today. Everything getting a fresh white overcoat The met and bbc saying another possible 3 hours of this so if it continues in this manner there will be a decent top up for sure. That said - both these organisations have not exactly covered themselves in glory with their forecasts for the central belt going by the comments on here.
  4. Light snow started in westhill - well ahead of the 6.00pm met office prediction. Maybe another top up today !
  5. Working from home today - didn’t fancy a commute in these conditions. Currently whiteout conditions in westhill - the drive is going to need cleared again this evening for sure
  6. Just back from a morning 10k run - left in brilliant sunshine with a dusting underfoot. 5 mins in and the cloud encroached with light snow soon following - that soon turned moderate and for a while heavy. Running in the snow - cathartic, invigorating and stunning - a joy to be alive and out in it. Much as I love prolonged snow and cold and, worst case scenario, if this current spell ends up disappointing and the remaining winter months thereafter fizzle out - I will at least have this mornings memory and images to keep me going till winter 24/25. Happy snow hunting to us all this week - hopefully we all see a taste of winter proper
  7. Good morning all. Note to self - when reading the model thread comments remember to check the location of all posters. The level of confusion and contradiction on that thread with respect to next weeks cold spell beggars belief. Such that I can only assume that the level of location bias associated with many of the comments is substantial. The number of times I’ve read that snow chances are diminishing/disappearing/never existed in the first place etc etc only to then have a glance at where the poster actually lives is startling. Anyways - looks frost free here in Westhill Aberdeenshire this morning. Got a later start today so not yet out and about ! Maybe next week will see a real taste of winter for us in the North ?
  8. Some extremely confusing dialogue on the model chat today - can’t help but think there’s a lot of IMBY’sm at play. Some bizarre comments thrown in there to boot : One poster from Southern Ireland seems to think they ‘get as much snow’ as anyone else. Have grown up in the highlands and now living in Aberdeenshire I would suspect that claim is not wholly accurate - I may be wrong about this ( and don’t have the data to back it up ) but I seriously doubt Southern Ireland gets as much snow as westhill AB32 for starters
  9. If the models are correct it looks like you will be making your own snowman this time around. Enjoy your highland break when it comes - gods own country indeed !
  10. Well that was an interesting day. Early trip back to to Nairn to drop off my elderly mother after her Xmas break with us in Aberdeenshire. The A96 was tricky on the way up with driving rain, sleet and snow. The journey back however was on a different level. Stranded at Huntly due to flooding and then a u turn back westbound on the A96 before a detour up to Banff and then Turriff. Eventually back into Aberdeen at Dyce and home to westhill some 6 and a half hours after leaving Nairn. Road conditions were absolutely atrocious in some parts - especially at Fyvie. How on earth all this was deemed to be just a yellow warning beggars belief. Not venturing far tomorrow that’s for sure.
  11. Decent covering of snow here in westhill this morning. Turning a bit sleety now tho. Met office forecast for here was/is pretty accurate. BBC however……..hmmmm.
  12. Totally agree re the met warning - why on earth this wasn’t upgraded to Amber is beyond me. A truly horrendous night of weather in the north east - numerous roads flooded and reports of cars aquaplaning and off the road even on main arteries like the A96.
  13. Horrible underfoot conditions here in westhill today - I have already cancelled my planned jog Scotland run tonight in favour of the gym treadmill. Frozen surfaces boasting a layer of water - lethal combination.
  14. And we’re off ! First covering of the season here in Westhill Aberdeenshire overnight. Moderate snow falling as I type. Not quite a 2010 early start to winter but it’s certainly very seasonal and welcome.
  15. Home in Nairn for the weekend - fairly benign day here - dry at least. Had a nice 10k run early afternoon and it felt relatively mild. Wind getting up this evening tho - just had a bracing walk along the seafront after dinner at the Sundancer restaurant next to the harbour.
  16. Am currently in North Carolina with work where it is very warm but been on phone home to Westhill this morning. The sticks are about to be ordered as the wood burner will be going on soon lol !!!
  17. Am exactly the same - if it’s not cold and crisp and/or with decent snowfall then I lose interest in ‘below average’ temps as we enter spring. Would far rather we had some warmer weather to look forward to and enjoy.
  18. Very decent overnight snowfall here in Westhill just outside Aberdeen. Heavy snow back on again and radar would suggest a good bit to come. Not looking forward to the morning commute.
  19. Back in my hometown of Nairn for the weekend - positively balmy for a morning walk along the seafront. A later walk round the river coincided with the local angling associations opening ceremony for the new season. Took me back to the days fishing the river as a boy. Will never forget opening day one early feb in what must have been the late 70’s. Absolutely Baltic with thick ice and heavy snow showers on and off. Lasted till my fingers were so numb I could barely cast or feel the line. What a contrast to today’s springlike conditions.
