  1. Not long back from a flying visit up to my hometown of Nairn. First visit to my elderly mother for quite a few months after this latest lockdown. A nice walk along the beach and great to see so many families out enjoying themselves. But by goodness it was cold - wind coming in from the sea made it feel like February not May. Across the firth Ben Wyvis looked to be holding plenty of the white stuff.
  2. Nice walk along the river Dee with the dog earlier this evening. A few things of note - how low the water level looks for the time of year - the distinct lack of greenery in the trees and undergrowth - and how chilly it was as breath was frosting up by the end of the walk. Just doesn’t feel like late spring at all.
  3. Nice early round of golf earlier at Inchmarlo just outside Banchory. Chilly start but warmed up nicely. Still on winter greens and tees as apparently the course soil temp is still too low to promote much in the way of growth. Course looking bare still and distinct lack of greenery for the time of year.
  4. Indeed very true - I even recall one early June in the 70’s growing up in Nairn when the ‘country kids’ did not get bussed down to the town for school because of snow. Think it was the glenferness area mainly affected if memory serves me right.
  5. A real day of contrasts so far today here - bright blue skies followed by sudden whiteout conditions and then back to blue skies again. No doubts the sun is getting stronger as the freshly accumulated snow is quickly melted away unless in the shade. Fascinating to watch. Had an exhilarating run along the old deeside railway earlier - makes you feel alive running in a blizzard.
  6. Heavy snow here just now - readily settling - unbelievable change in conditions from yesterday mornings walk along the river Dee.
  7. Snow starting to settle here on cars etc. Hard to believe after such a pleasant, mild and benign start to the day. As my granny always said ‘ne’er cast a cloot till May is oot’
  8. Cracking pic - saw a sparrowhawk and a red kite on my walk this morning. Peregrine flew over the back garden earlier this week. Great to see wildlife thriving even in these harsh conditions.
  9. Sounds like chaos in rural Aberdeenshire today - high winds combined with loads of deep snow leading to blocked or impassable roads. Been out for a walk here earlier and the windchill was very evident.
  10. Heavy snow back on here just outside Aberdeen - everything white again.
  11. Moderate snow on here - it’s so cold that every flake is sticking - road immediately white again
  12. Maybe a last hurrah for us here just outside Aberdeen tonight ? Met and beeb seem to be going for snow later on. Baltic here today - beautiful tho.
  13. What a clown. One one hand it’s hilarious but on the other scarcely believable that someone would actually try to drive that ??
  14. Heavier snow showers been moving through now - readily settling - and radar looks good for tonight Marginality issues appear to be behind us now - a couple of interesting days ahead.
  15. Moderate more fluffy type snow on here - just the hint that it may start to stick on certain surfaces. This winter the term ‘marginal’ has defo become my least favourite word.
  16. I have tried to understand better by reading the model thread but then find I am more confused than I was in the first place
  17. Flurries of snow here - nothing settling - yet apparently Westhill is snowbound 5 miles away It’s a bit of a damp squib here so far - can only hope that once this system moves southwards and colder easterlies get established that we will see some decent shower activity in the coming days.
  18. Where is highest point in the city ? Must be in Mastrick ? Turning to snow in culter now - lower uppers must be kicking in now ?
  19. Good sign for more lowland Aberdeenshire as the night progresses
  20. In that movie the day after tomorrow it still didn’t snow in Allens Seriously - probably just too close to the sea even though it’s up a hill ??
  21. I have been genuinely bamboozled by the differences and contradictions in the forecasts from both the met and bbc over the last few days - appreciate it’s maybe a hard one to call but they genuinely appear to be making it up as they go along
