  1. 9k run round westhill tonight and it was positively balmy - far too many layers on. Maybe a bit chillier next week tho ?
  2. Just put the recycling bins out - clearly been a late frost here as everything is iced up. Wasn’t expecting that this morning given forecast of milder temps. Last few days of the holidays before back to work on Monday.
  3. Just back from a walk around Dunecht estate here in Aberdeenshire - lovely day for a walk - calm and feeling a bit milder than of late. Still some snow/ice patches kicking about in the most shaded areas. I have been avoiding the model thread as it appears to be focussed only on the lack of any wintry weather potential for the south east of the UK. This has undoubtedly felt more like a traditional December weather wise in Aberdeenshire with significant laying snow and cold minimum temps. Takes me back to winters growing up in Nairn in the 70’s and 80’s.
  4. If you want an area that catches the snow but is close to the city of Aberdeen itself then I can thoroughly recommend Westhill. It always seems to catch the snow that bit better than surrounding areas. Far enough inland and elevated enough so that in these marginal set ups where the city and costal areas have sleet or wet snow it is more often than not snowing and accumulating in Westhill.
  5. Nairn- my hometown - no better place to live in the whole of the UK. Some cracking winters there back in the day - I had a paper round winter of 1980/81 - great fun in the snow -
  6. I’ve given up - it’s like a punch and Judy show over the weather. The thaw is very much on here - just been out to pick up my daughter and our street is lethal - hard compacted snow and ice but now boasting a coating of water. Treacherous.
  7. Oops - please ignore that previous post - didn’t mean to re post it Admin- please remove IT issues lol - this is what I meant to post - our street in westhill this morning…..
  8. Yup - getting heavy now - morning commute is going to be interesting to say the least
  9. That’s the snow back on in westhill Aberdeenshire - light at the moment. Will see what it amounts to overnight.
  10. Fantastic pics called home to Nairn earlier today and my mum said they had a very decent snowfall overnight
  11. I’ve tried reading the model thread to get a feel on that very question - but it’s possibly the most confusing sequence of dialogue I’ve ever tried to follow. It also is very south east oriented and sometimes I forget that when I read a doom and gloom post. Looks like it will turn milder this weekend but for how long is anyones guess - in my humble and uneducated opinion.
  12. Roads are ok in westhill but the pavements are a completely different story - an absolute disgrace and frankly dangerous.
  13. Cracking pics of a beautiful part of the county at any time of the year - but all the more stunning in the snow
  14. Looks like l have missed the fun and games back home in Westhill Aberdeenshire this morning as still in Holland and not home till tonight. Other half is a teacher and she has a delayed start to school this morning - sounds like the gritters have been caught out which I find hard to believe given how long this has been forecast? Maybe it was more intense than anticipated but roads sound very tricky. Met office saying snow all the way but beeb touting sleet - clearly marginal as a warmer sector pushes in ?
  15. Norway last week - Holland this week. Overnight in Ijmuiden and it’s damp and cold - not quite freezing though. Just called home to westhill - snow seems to be getting going there now and lying. Just checked traffic scotland live cameras and the city bypass at kingswells certainty looked interesting. RE the model chat - spirits are sky high again tonight I see.
  16. It’s beginning for me in Oslo with dull and cold weather just above freezing. Home to Westhill tonight before it gets significantly colder here. Looking like we are in for some snow in Aberdeenshire by this time next week ?
  17. Good morning from Stavanger - a dull and relatively mild start - around 5 degrees with very light winds. Off to Oslo later today - naturally it will be a good bit colder as I head east - albeit as I will be back in Scotland Thursday evening I will miss the real cold air digging in thereafter. Perhaps a taste of what is coming our way next week ? I’ve tried to wade through the model thread this morning to get an update on how things will pan out. Have given up as the vast majority of it is well over my head and every second post seems to contradict the preceding one lol
  18. Left Aberdeen in beautiful crisp sunshine and arrived in stavanger to dull and overcast conditions - but a pleasant 7 degrees according to the pilot on approach. Oslo will definitely be colder this week - hovering around freezing day and night.
  19. First post in a while as the upcoming potential cold spell has caught my attention and brought me out of lurker mode. Trying to make sense of the model thread but always leave feeling more confused than I was before entering It seems to be looking promising for some at least seasonal weather as we enter December - albeit I am sure many of us will be keeping an eye on heating costs if we do get a prolonged bout of cold weather. About to get on a plane for a few days work in Stavanger and then on to Oslo so I will certainly get a taste of colder weather this week.
  20. Not posted for a while as tend to be a winter weather lurker and enthusiast. But heading home to Nairn for a two week holiday mid July and I believe the long term signals are encouraging for dry and warm settled weather - hope so anyway. Just had a walk along the river Dee here at Peterculter and it’s noticeable that the showers of the last few days have upped the water levels significantly. Last weekend I had never seen the river so low with banks of shingle and rocks showing that I had never seen before.
  21. Saw some fantastic sunset pics from Nairn beach last night - remarkable turn around given the day we had.
  22. Utterly foul evening here. Brief walk with the dog in driving rain and a cold wind. Scarcely believable we are nearly in June. Tomorrow’s forecast for north east Scotland looks miserable to say the least.
  23. Nice round of Golf this morning at Inchmarlo just outside Banchory. Actually felt like spring was finally in the air with T-shirt weather for the best part. The course is still way behind though - winter greens in play still on a number of holes as the main greens are very bare. Undergrowth is stunted and the trees are way behind. Only plus is that wayward shots missing the fairway are easier to find due to lack of greenery and growth. And I had a few of them today .
