I’ve always struggled with heat, but I’ve managed to get through it and generally not moan too much.  But this week it’s the humidity and even worse, the lack of any breeze whatsoever.  The only time I remember experiencing this weather before and not enjoying it was on holiday at Lake Como, that was the same - but at least I had a pool to escape from it then.  But the evenings were just unpleasant, as they are now.

I was hoping tomorrow’s forecast would look a little better…but it looks like I’ll be seeking every opportunity again to sit in the car!

Lake Como is gorgeous i stayed there for a week and i would absolutely live there even with how hot it was! Sooo gorgeous 😍

im in a right mood! I keep falling asleep in the afternoon I’ve got no energy I’m sticky and my air conditioner is just barely bringing the room down to 23c it was 27c earlier this is deffo the hottest day of the year for me

i have so many important things that need to get done but can’t because of the weather just please bring autumn soon please 🙏 I’m so done

I saw those things at Amazon but i had an old blackout curtain thing from earlier in the year and blue tacked it to the window and cut a little hole in it and wollah! Lol 😂

I've had one for 2 years now. Wouldn't be without it. Fans just blow warm air at you.

Yeah we couldn’t be without ours now! It’s been on constantly since the heat started it doesn’t seem overly expensive to run either

Hopefully we will be able to put it away next week till next year but it’s been a lifesaver for us!

I'm definitely going to have to invest in a portable AC unit, every year now we get disruptive heat. I've got a 'water air cooler' thingy (really cheap and a bit nasty!), and although it's marginally better than a normal fan, it can't cope with the hot climate. I don't like the idea of getting an AC unit, but the time has come, I'm afraid...!

Maybe if I hold on until the winter, they'll be cheaper?! Until we get a tropical December, of course...grr!!

I did the same as you used fans and those little cube things that are meant to cool the air nothing worked then last year leading up to the 40c heat i freaked out and said no…can’t take that and got one think it was about £120 something like that big white one with a hose that goes out the window

best thing I’ve ever done…no wind smacking me in the face and hair from the fan it feels like your sitting in the freezer and i love it lol

our room was 27c whacked it on and it went down to 20c and I can eat and sleep properly again

you won’t regret buying one seriously every heat hater should grab one if they can ❤️

I gave in and have had the a/c running 24/7 since Tuesday night, set to 23ºC. That's not because I necessarily hate the heat, I can cope to a degree (pun intended) with ibuprofen to keep migraines at bay.

I simply won't sleep well enough. something I don't want as my job needs me to be alert and it has driving as a significant part of it. It's costing me about £7/day on this new tariff, since it's on overnight.

Anyways, hopefully there's some spectacular elevated storms from this spell. Don't want the dangerous storms......

Yep we’ve had our air conditioner running constantly since the heat started! I usually turn it on at night but this house is so well insulated that the heat doesn’t leave it just builds up and up till it feels like the pit of hell!

Well looks like we peaked at 28C. A few places at 29C to the east of me looking at  weather cloud. If we don't have the cloud tomorrow morning chance we will break a record. Against that I won't be able to keep the house so cool.

The house is at 26c currently it reached 27c earlier think our max here in Wakefield is 28c today and for the next 3 days

  9. I really hope this doesn’t continue for much longer! I thought we wouldn’t need this thread again but here we all are!

I just can’t function properly when it’s like this it zaps all the energy I have and makes me just want to lay down and do sod all

does anyone know when it will end I checked the mod thread but people seem confused at the moment some saying next week and others saying it’s continuing 🫣

Bring on September warmth I say. It takes a hell of a lot for warmth to be unpleasant in September, and with the long nights it means it actually cools down that bit more. Lovely month. And all the feral kids are back in prison school 😂

You worded this well lol I’m not so worried about the heat now and the feral ones 😂

Seems to a strong trend of something warmer and settled from the weekend, but not a done deal yet.

Well this 12 oz run pops up plenty of warm to very warm weather and a few hot unpleasant days.  Quite a shift from yesterday so not much confidence in the run.

I just noticed talk of it becoming warmer let’s hope it’s wrong and nothing becomes of it

I agree! Last night was horrible!
The fact there was no breeze is what made it so much worse... I didn't sleep well at all
I have a seriously bad headache from this weather... I'm staying hydrated too!
I've noticed this weather makes me buy groceries more... Ughhhh...

    I'm not sure when this will end ;-;

I could have wrote that myself lol

I have a headache and all the rest! I really just want a cold autumn and winter! Like from the old days - I remember Halloween as a child in the 80s being cold and guy Fawkes night, I remember one oct/nov being bitterly cold would have been late 80s early 90s

    I want that again! 🙏

  14. Last night was horrible!
no breeze high humidity and i didn’t sleep to well my fan also decided to spin but blow no air?!! It’s a scientific marvel i think!

and as a person who has a fan constantly going since 2018 it’s needed…

so more outlay as ive just purchased a new one as i can’t go through that again 🥵

I’ve noticed the darkness sticking around longer in the morning as i take my dad to work at 4.20am it was full on daytime back in June/July now the stars were still out 😌

we just need to hold on a bit longer! We can do this 🥰

Finally seeing others who share my hatred of Hot weather has finally inspired me to register. Even as a kid I couldn't stand hot weather, to the point where I've never been abroad, and have no intention of doing so either. My tolerance of heat decreased even further (if that was possible) in 2012, when I was involved in a non fault car accident which left me with a crush injury and chronic condition called lymphoedema in my left leg, which means it swells to around three times its normal size during the day. However in hot or humid weather it becomes far worse and so swollen and irritated, its impossible to wear suit trousers, shoes and socks or walk on it for more than a few minutes as it constantly needs to be elevated and this can last for weeks, ironically making it impossible to 'get out and enjoy the summer weather' or even work in an office environment.

The increased swelling also brings with it the increased the risk of ulcers and a nasty re-current infection called Cellulitis. So I just wanted to highlight that for some people in society, the dislike of hot weather isn't just a preference or down to metabolism it can be health driven and so essentially beyond their control too - so be kind.

I guess i'm very fortunate that I have an employer who is sympathetic to my condition and allows me to work from home for 3 days a week as part of adaptions, however for 2 days I still have to go into the office, which is in a 19th Century Mill and on the floor directly above a laundrette, so its routinely high 20's and sultry in there as a result of tumble dryers and hundreds of commercial steam irons below, even when its a lovely, refreshing 13c outside. These days I'm starting to dread those 2 days each week.

In an attempt to better my own situation I was originally planning to move to Shetland, where much more sensible summers exist with far favourable conditions to sustaining year around comfort however my employer wouldn't agree to a contract with full time remote working, and so I guess i'm stuck here in summers which resemble the seventh circle of hell, until retirement. But that is at least my intro and backstory in advance to give you the reason why I'm not exactly doing cartwheels (literally) at the thought of anything much above 22c

As a cruel twist of fate, I currently live in Cheshire, which for some reason this year seem to attract some of the highest temperatures during any hot spell, and not far off those forecast in London! whilst I gaze enviously at Counties on either sides which seem to be enjoying days which are 3c or lower.

Welcome to our little cool corner of this wonderful weather forum!

I Would love to move somewhere cold freezing cold with snow and icicles all year round and never have to worry about being hot ever again!

I really hope I’m not going to hell 😂 that would be my idea of torture and punishment tbh

It’s funny when i was living down south it was normal to be warmer then oop north, and London was a nightmare always has been since I was little, but I thought when i moved up here to West Yorkshire it would be cooler and it was for a while….Since 2018 it’s just getting hotter and hotter and there’s no difference in my opinion anymore

I’m going to have to move even further north now Scotland is looking appealing tbh or maybe the North Pole

Noting BW’s post above, and fully respecting that others have differing views/needs etc.

But, I’ve always considered myself a ‘heat hater’.  Temperatures over 30c and I just struggle to function, I feel tired and heavy, and often found sitting in the car with the AC on (I know, the GW shame).  I have a fairly narrow band of what I’d consider to be, for me, the perfect summer temperature - probably around 22-25c during the day.  I think this summer has been kind so far!

So it begs the question, what’s your band of perfect operating temperature for summer in the daytime?.

I don’t function well in any heat really so for me personally this July has been amazing - I don’t mind the rain at all either so 18-20c is my top level lol Cool breeze to go with it 👍

I comfort myself by thinking 'surely that isn't possible', because the highest dew point I've endured in this country is around 19.5c (July 2015), and that was stifling enough! 25c would be record smashing and probably not realistic thankfully.  Also, it's just one ECM run!

Yes! I’ve just seen the latest models and that is quite something

Also the Cape which is extremely high on some of the outputs! I do love a good storm we always seem to miss them where i currently live though

Fingers crossed this is downgraded im seriously not looking forward to 37c 🤮🤢🤮

  18. Honestly the thought makes me anxious

I haven’t checked the latest models but if what you are all saying is what is going to happen then it’s going to be a very uncomfortable time ahead for all of us who can’t tolerate the heat

But as it has been said it’s almost the middle of August and soon we shall be out of the danger zone just got to put our heads down and push through it 🫠

Completely agree...mmm, the thought of snow and ice...!

It's got cloudy here now IMBY, which is just making it humid. Unfortunately a warm and humid night to come, looks like. 🤢

I finally cracked and switched on the AC it reached 27c and that was it for me!

the humidity is bad right now isn’t it 🤮

I think the sun has disappeared behind a cloud it was blaring in the window and now it seems darker but it’s so uncomfortable 🥴

im up at 4am and it’s saying 20c here! Too much to soon!!!

  20. It’s absolutely roasting here today! Went outside and it felt like a hair dryer blasting your face!

im considering pulling out the air conditioner again…it’s 26c in this room and im roasting alive!

I’ve been reading about the winter of 46/47 and dreaming of 8ft snow drifts and ice in the sea 😂  I can’t wait to be to cold and needing to put on clothes rather then feeling hot sticky and uncomfortable with no air to breathe

I hope this ends soon lol

    Afternoon all,

Hope I find yourselves and your Families, ell.

As a fully paid up member of President Dami's Heat Hater's Club, absolutely loving this July, .

But there is still August to get through, so not counting my chickens just yet!!

Feel sorry for my relatives in my Mum's Country of Italy but as far as I'm concerned the heat can stay over the South of Europe, for the rest of the Summer.

But myself and other close  Family members are worried about our extended Family.

The Sister-in-Law of my Sister lives in Corfu and has a Tourist business there with her Husband, who is a Native of Corfu.

Meanwhile, my Italian Cousin and her Family live in Catania in Sicily, close to Mount Etna.

After a few Days of mid 40's Centigrade, it's don to a more comfortable 30C, Today.

Meanwhile back in S.E. London, it still feels very "gloopy", this Afternoon.

Below, are the recent readings from nearby London City Airport, about 6 miles North of my location, as the Crow flies.

Even though the relative humidity is dropping, I'm still sitting in our Lounge with a fan on quite a high setting.

    image.thumb.png.8ce156d7d6282cc983b8c95e3a8297b8.png / image.thumb.png.ca02297d6c6fd75197e67b97b29780e1.png image.thumb.png.4f2c404b687febaaa35ac069c2d14ea2.png

Plus myself and my Wife have still needed to have our Bedroom fan on every Night so far, this Summer.

Our Housing Association property is very poorly designed in terms of comfort, during Summer.

Our Rooms are small with low ceilings and our Bedroom sits directly above our Kitchen.

We try and use our Cooker as little as possible during the Summer months. If we use it for any length of time, the heat soon rises up to the top floor of the House, making for a very uncomfortable Night's sleep.

My Wife and myself are totally with you PEWKZIL. We hate it when Summer comes around and can't wait for Autumn to get here!!

And our N.W. London diagonally opposite neighbour LASSIE23, never mind about Snow Lass, can't wait for the reappearance of the O.F.I. [October Fog Index].

    Regards,

    Tom Q. 👍

Hey there Tom! Hope you and your family are well 🙂

So far with August it seems that if we were to get some heat it would be a little easier to tolerate with the shortening days!

myself and my Partner sleep with our fan on constantly lol have done since 2018 we can’t sleep if it’s not cool plus we love the background noise, if it’s off now it’s eerily quiet and feels just wrong!

I hope your families abroad are safe and coping ok with the heat they are having!

The stickiness in the air is still present even if it’s cooler the house is very humid at the moment - I’m just waiting for the darker nights and the chill in the air that you need to be wrapped up in a duvet to sleep 😴

and as you said the fog!! We had amazing fog in 2020 it lasted for about 6 days i think very spooky 👻

  22. Well that’s me happy! I literally get filled with fear when I think about summer coming round i certainly was dreading this one after last year!

but it’s been perfect! I just read Markyo’s post in the summer thread about the light! I’m exactly the same - it’s to bright to early and lasts for seemingly forever!

I can not wait for the dark mornings and dark evenings proper! ☺️
