  1. I haven’t been around for a while hopefully there isn’t any chance of a heatwave in August!

I personally have been enjoying the lack of extreme heat, it was quite warm and sunny here the other day, I don’t mind to much if there’s warm days but cooler as well it’s the constant prolonged excessive heat that wears me down after a while!

but I’m currently excited for Autumn and Winter! My fav seasons of the year 😬

You are both true heat haters when you are watching the weather forecast together while drinking your early morning cup of tea, and both go YEAH!!! when the graphic at the end comes up

Indeed! It’s good to share your preference with your loved ones you can cheer together or moan together 😆

Thank you. Yes, that's a good point...all of our infrastructure is focussed on keeping warm, which made good sense for housing stock when I was young, but now the new challenge is around balancing that with keeping cool...my house is great these days at retaining warmth. Not quite what I want for about 9 months of the year though!

Completely agree about houses in this country

this house we live in now is so well insulated it’s insane! Even though it’s barely 17c outside inside it’s still 25c weeks of colder temps still haven’t helped to reduce the temp - we open the window and it goes down to 19 soon as it’s shut right back up again within minutes

when i lived in South Africa it was just different the heat didn’t feel as oppressive it was enjoyable but English Heat just isn’t nice

    Hi everyone,

I'm new here (hello!), but have been 'lurking', reading posts etc for a good while. This community is definitely my space...!

I was just reflecting that it was this time last year that it felt as though the gates of hell were opening, and I became really quite unwell with the heat. My heat tolerance just went, and has never seemingly returned. Seeing conditions here in the English Midlands today, and reading reports of what our unfortunate friends in southern Europe are suffering, makes me truly appreciative of the weather that we've had in July so far. Long may it last - !

    Welcome!!
I was also a long term lurker till recently and everyone was really lovely to me!

this time last year indeed was filling me with absolute dread, it was the reason we purchased an Air Conditioner - the first day we had that i could eat again sleep again it was heavenly!

but we certainly have dodged a bullet so far this year!

  5. Thank you so much everyone! You are all really lovely! And I feel very welcome here 🙂

I completely agree about the people who hate heat and the ones who hate the cold - it’s really strange to me why it’s such a mind boggling idea that someone doesn’t like feeling hot sticky and uncomfortable?

I see such rudeness towards this little thread of ours lol 😂 we really annoy people it seems who enjoy boiling alive live and let live i say - I stay in my lane and they should stay in theirs

the heat that is being experienced atm in Europe is not something to wish for it’s dangerous it’s worrying tbf

just as the cold can hurt the heat atm is doing the same exact thing for homeless people who can’t hide from the shade being admitted with extreme heat stroke to animals losing their homes due to wildfires it’s not something i would ever wish for us here and that’s final.

im loving the outlook atm with the models i haven’t checked today other then the graph Tidal Wave posted above i hope it’s not changed since then lol

oh how i hope we get the winters of all winters this year! I think it was 1987 when i lived in Essex the winter was amazing it looked like Narnia! I remember icicles everywhere and the next best one from there was 2010 when i moved to Leeds and my god that was so amazing here!!

I pray 🙏 this winter is memorable for all the right reasons!!!

Time is ticking along nicely and just a month of "high" summer left. Delays to any return to warmth are very welcome and long may they continue. It now looks like people are looking to August, a bit premature perhaps but I'm liking what I am seeing. We've got this heat haters!

    I really hope so! 🫰

Hope you are a feeling much better now. Dental infections are the worst. I had a severe toothache two years ago due to a nasty infection, but thankfully the pain actually went away by the time I got to see the dentist, though the infection was obviously still very much present. I was given a course of antibiotics and had to have a root canal. I have been through many aches and pains during my time, but toothache is by far the worst.

Feeling much better now thank you!

im in the exact same boat! But i had the root canal work done but not completely finished it was left for a year because i hate the dentist and almost exactly a year later it started throbbing then aching and even without the nerve it needed pain killers

then after being like this for a week it also stopped hurting and they still told me to come in and yep infection still there and antibiotics needed i just picked them up today so fingers crossed they make it all better again

and i completely agree with toothache being the worst so unrelenting!

  8. Thanks so much to everyone with the advice for making it a more enjoyable experience here

i had a bad tooth infection which was annoying me greatly so probs feeling more emotional then was needed 😬

Antibiotics in hand and back to normal absolutely loving the rain we’ve had it absolutely poured down in Crossgates Leeds today and I’m really not hating the weather at all

it’s still around 25c in the bedroom humidity is high as well which I’m not liking much but the lrf of no heatwave and just lower then average temps are good news all round!

reading about the horrible heatwave that Southern Europe is having currently is very sad 😞 I know that we always get the usual winter kills too but the sun when it gets going is so destructive

2 forest fires an hour in Greece so much habitat destroyed animals dying humans dying so hot people are leaving completely towns deserted

I feel for them but I’m so happy we have escaped this nearly 50c I just couldn’t…

I hope they will all be ok but it’s not looking wonderful atm

Just ignore the rude and childish fools, there's unfortunately far too many of them on this forum. They also tend to infest the model output thread with their trolling and whining when the weather isn't THEIR kind of 'perfect'.

I too am not a fan of the heat, 21 or 22C is pretty much perfect for me, but I respect the fact that some love it; in other words I don't go out of my way to constantly insult them for having different likes and dislikes to me.

Getting back to the rude folks, if you experience any being rude, trolling or even aggressive towards yourself or others it's best to use the Report function. The mods will often act on the back of that. Don't let the childish posters put you off posting here.

Thank you for the lovely reply as well - I didn’t expect any reply to what i posted so it’s really made me feel a bit better about continuing to post here

it took a lot for me to post and then i kept seeing certain references to the small amount of people in this little group of which im active so i took it to heart a bit and felt like i should maybe stop but im not going to do that now so thank you again

I absolutely love the extremes of the weather just not the heat side of it and i don’t know if many know of the band Garbage and the song I’m only happy when it rains but that was my fav song when i was a teenager 😆 so explains a lot now i guess

we all love different things and if we didn’t then we certainly would live in a boring world it was just the sheer lack of respect for others and the feeling that certain peoples opinions just weren’t welcome which is sad 😞

but indeed i will most certainly use that feature in the future and shan’t let it stop me from enjoying this forum - I think i live here during Autumn and Winter just lurking and watching 👀😜

but thank you again! You have all made me feel very welcome here 🤗

I like the heat, but I do realise that it isn't for everyone and there is no need for rudeness. I also like cold and snow in winter whereas my mother hates it with a vengeance, but I never feel the need to be rude to her about it as we are all different and it's only weather at the end of the day.

I would just continue posting regardless. Never be ashamed to be who you are. If others don't like it, that's their problem not yours. 🙂

Thank you for the lovely reply

I suffer from bad anxiety and even though it’s a forum i feel nervous about posting so when i started sharing how I felt about the weather it was really nice to feel like i was with like minded individuals

but the more i wanted to engage with the other threads about the weather in general the more I noticed a theme of pointing at this thread im active and comfortable in and the more i noticed people throwing some really harsh words at the members here

Im 40 so i totally understand the internet and the way it works lol im not adverse to the harshness of it

but on a weather forum it’s bizarre! I know most people love the heat and the sun in summer but just because we don’t doesn’t mean we are all insane or odd or whatever other derogatory comment that people want to use against us, it’s a bit much for the weather 😆

but you’re right i do enjoy it here and I’ve been an active watcher for about 3 years and 2 as a member I think! I love the buzz in the winter and watching the experts tell us about the models it’s exciting and a big part of autumn and winter for me hehe

  11. Today has been very hot! I was out in the sun for a little while and it was way to hot for me lol but I’m glad the people who love the sun have had the heat for a bit

I suppose im only writing this because i know the cold is coming back otherwise i would be whinging a lot!

I hope the storms that are hopefully coming tomorrow pass over Wakefield though for some reason Leeds and Wakefield always seem to miss them

Been a long time since we enjoyed some good storms

    🤞

  12. I’m not to fussed if we get a bit of heat in August as it’s so close to Autumn

what I’ve hated so much in this country as of late is what feels like just consistent plumes of heat from end of may to Sept

I completely understand people wanting summer weather in the summer, just as i always look forward to frost and snow and coooooold cold weather (not that we get much of it) so i get the frustrations

but that’s why i post in here and not the other threads glorifying what we have now as it annoys me when i read people happy in other threads that we have a warm winter or what have you

i hate the heat and it can stay the heck away for as long as possible ill be happy 😆

Ah life is good. It's fresh, it's workable in, it's sleepable in and what's more any horrid heat blast from the south later in the week looks like it may be shortlived, if it happens at all. Just over a month to go, the clock is ticking. A few more very enjoyable days to come too. 😄

I agree! I’ve managed to get a lot more done now that’s it cooler 👍

Another nice windy, wet, cool day,

It’s so nice to have some coolness to the air - though upstairs in our house it is still 24c doesn’t seem to be shifting - do not like at all lol

And if the models are to be believed more incoming heat before i get to cool the house down 😭

Looking at the heat that's currently across much of Iberia at the moment all I can say is thank god for the jet stream.  My only concern is how long will it be before that heat makes it way towards us.

That was worrying me too! Looks very hot there and like you said let’s hope the jet stream doesn’t bring it to us!

I understand people love the sun and the blue skies and think we are all odd with our love of the cold but honestly for me personally it’s the way the heat makes me feel in this country - I get overly hot I can’t sleep i always feel tired the house becomes an unbearable heat trap and that can be as dangerous as to cold

We have indoor kitties and we can’t open our windows, we literally roast and everyone who lives here fears the heat

I’ve lived in South Africa and it was different? The house was built for the heat the skies were a different blue it never felt like it does in this country it felt liveable

I respect everyone’s choice on what they prefer so it kinda irks me when we all get looked at like we’re insane or questioned for why we feel this way

we are on a weather forum all our opinions should be respected on what we prefer

but i am so happy that it’s cooler! ⛈️

I’m in Wakefield too - awful last couple of days. Bring on the fresher weather and rain. It can’t come soon enough.

Hello there Fellow Neighbour! It’s been so close here recently hasn’t it!

I’ve had to drive my dad to work at 4.30am the past few days and usually there’s a slight breeze in the morning but this morning was the worst! About 20c and hardly any breeze!

I’ve noticed now though something brewing! Let’s keep our fingers crossed we get a lovely storm ⛈️

Completely understand, I have 2 units and the whole house is cooled, one on through the night on low, I invested 6 years back after suffering  terribly for 3/4 months every year for decades. £100 a year for the relief to me is well worth it. There is the initial cost of course but again worth it as it's been life changing for me.

I completely agree! We purchased ours last year just before they announced we would be hitting 40c 😱 couldn’t believe it and to someone who may as well be a vampire i shy away from the sun that much it almost crippled me with fear lol but it was life changing

The fans just aren’t the same after the air conditioner and actual coolness instead of hot air being blown at you!

A true life saver when it gets this hot

Even in these pricey times my air con cost about a £1 a day to run, well worth it.

Oh i understand it’s not all the air conditioner but also the 3 fans we have as a full family and other items which use the Electric also, it bumps it up a lot, we have a smart meter and can monitor our electrical usage daily and it has jumped up since this heat started

  19. Hey everyone not posted here much but i can’t take this heat anymore 😭 I’m literally praying for Summer to end so we can be cold again! When it’s hot there’s no air in my house upstairs it’s like sleeping inside an oven! How is this nice!? When it’s cold you can whack on a duvet a jumper a onesie! When it’s hot what can you do!? Other then spend £10 a day running fans and air conditioners so you don’t feel like you’re dying! I just don’t understand why anyone enjoys this!?

anyways our time will come like they keep saying and i for one can’t wait till it’s freezing cold and im able to sleep once again!
