Assume it's because the radar being used or more likely the software being used to generate the images from it, may not have a low enough resolution to display it. The software will have algorithms within it to remove anomalous minor readings, with may come from a variety of things, these algorithms may be removing the minor readings.
I did notice a little earlier that when the fall became more than snizzle, the radar showed an echo or too for 10 minutes, and then went away.
just a guess
I do remember in the 1985 cold spell, where temps were admittedly lower, we had about 36 hours of this heavy snizzle here near the east coast, and it accumulated quite quickly.
shame it's not going to do that today.
-
Heavy snizzle for over an hour here in Ipswich, not settling though
-
temps now at 0.7c and dropping, dewpoint -1.07c and dropping, light to moderate snow showers every 5-10 mins, no accumulations.
No indication of shower activity, of note, on radar.
wind veering E-NE, slowly
tis odd.
-
bbc now saying no snow for the south east including monday.
temps in colchester around 3c. thaw setting in and no ppn watsoever.
will the snow over wales move west or east toword us as the day goes on?
temps just north of Colchester are only at 0.5c, very very slow thaw, snow flurries.
-
it is bizzare - it is now snowing lightly here.
What are the bets on Sunny and 84 degrees tomorrow. It may as well be for all I know.
-
temps here upto 0.4c, highest since the 5th.
Funny really, a "big-upped" long lasting snow fall predicted, and temps are rising, no one is really sure where the snow is going to come from. It all seems very odd.

appropos nothing in particular, having quickly trawled the Deutsche Wetterdienst, some german weather forums etc. etc
there is a large area of light to moderate snow moving across the plains of northern germany and northern holland towards the North Sea. Precipitation rates are rising all the time. Expectations are for an additional 10 cm of snow.
Some weather warnings in place across northern germany, although they may not make such a song and dance about it as we do.
Additionally there is a band of heavier snow moving NW across central germany reasonably quickly, heading towards Luxembourg and Belgium, expectations from this are for localised fall of 15cm of snow.
I WILL ADD THAT I HAVE NO IDEA IF ANY OF THIS WILL REACH US, before anyone takes this as a forecast. Just reporting what our teutonic cousins are reporting.
-
I think you'll find large areas of Sussex, including here in Brighton, also have plebty of snow
And areas of Essex outside of that 10 mile strip of coast, have much lower totals too.
-
Yes been watching that for a couple of hours now, just not sure that it is either noteworthy precipitation wise, or going to head to the places that seem to be touted by the somewhat overblown TV forecasts in recent hours.
It does seem to show however, that the Netweather radar and Buienradar.nl has some major shortcomings in coverage that far across the North Sea.
However, there are always surprises. I am off to go read some german weather/news forums to see what they are saying. As the TV tonight is sh*t! As normal.
-
Totally OT but can we clear up this 'definately/definitly/defanitly' or even 'defently' thing?
It's spelt 'definitely' like define, or finite…
Oh thank god, for someone who can spell. Irritated the hell out of me too.
-
The band of ppn showing over Kent and Sussex on raintoday. Is that the ppn that is supposed to give us here and London the snow overnight? To me it doesn't look that potent and it looks like it'll be moving fairly quickly?
No
-
Irritatingly lovely stream of heavy snow heading into Kent.
have fun
-
If you watch the Dutch radar all the major show activity is curving round and missing the East Anglian (can I say that here?) coast and heading straight for North Kent.
I think if you are in Essex, most of it is going to only skim the coast ocaasionally. Dull, dull, dull.
Going to watch nothing on tv.

To all Suffolk Folk - East Anglia Thread or South East ??
Help!
Aaaaaarrrrgggjhhhh
Tee Hee!

I am so tired of waiting for an odd shower to deliver three flakes. It's petulant I know, BUT I WANT PROPER SNOW.
So far the pre-christmas fall gave me more snow than this entire period. I want snow like I remember as a kid, with hours of snow in a E/NE gale, where you can't see 50 yrds, where the snow is deep enough to prevent traffic, and kerbs disappear, and everything gets quiet and muffled.
I am in prime position for a proper fall in a continental air driven cold period, and am now aggrieved at a mere 4 inches. I know others have less, but yes I am being greedy.
The weather in the country drives me MAD.
I was so looking forward to a Mediterranean climate, but am now being driven to distraction by insufficient cold weather - Ridiculous.
Feel better now, rant over.

Can anyone from Ipswich give me any advice, my brother needs to travel down there tomorrow and sunday just wanted to know how much snow you have got and what the roads are like in rural areas? Cheers
Well it was all fine until about 3pm this afternoon with about 4 inches of snow, but main roads were clear, then it got blatted with a big shower, that apparently caused gridlock. I left work as it started to snow, so I don't know what it left.
But he should wait till the last minute before deciding to travel, who knows what may happen tonight. There are several Ipswich based posters who may be able to keep you informed.
-
But then North Essex is in East Anglia and S Essex is in the South East
Oh but my head and heart are soooo "South East", but my feet are in with the sugarbeet????

BBC24 forecast starting to back down from Carol's earlier snow forecasts. Chris Fawkes now showing snow for Saturday night going into Sunday
Yup as I said earlier this morning after it first aired, just another crap forecast from the Beeb.
-
Carol Kirkwoods BBC forecast showed SE corner getting snow showers on Saturday with Sunday's event mainly a SW affair with a massive rain band in the far west English Channel..
Bit rubbish for us on that forecast. We'll see.
Think it was just a crap forecast - as per normal
-
In fact that area in the North Sea is very strange; if you look at the IR Sat loop, it has been almost totally stationary for hours. Everything around it moves, but it stays more or less still. Just like a totally slack area of water in between eddies in a stream.
The energy levels in that area of precipitation have increased in the last 2 hours too.
Wonder what it will do, if anything?
-
just renewed my netw radar sub
has anyone any thoughts on the heavy returns out in the north sea heading this way ? looks rather impressive ?
It's possible I guess, but they have been out there all evening, not really heading this way.
-
I do feel sorry for you. But remember you lot were getting a fair bit before Christmas one night while we were the wrong side of that particular line Swings and roundabouts I snowpose
I know just teasing - and maybe a little envious
-
yup feel sorry for those of us about 5 miles too far NW of the shower train, we ain't getting anything
not impressed
LOL!
-
the big blob only gave a few flakes for a few minutes here - nothing falling now.
all to the south and east of me
