  1. Storms missed us by 12 miles yesterday (Aylesbury) so awaiting how close they miss us today. Still no thunderstorms this year or even torrential rain. A pretty usual summer here.
  2. Very true. What is really annoying is that there have been 5 times this year where quite active storms just missed here by a few miles. Yesterday in the morning torrential rain fell to the west of us then in the afternoon a thunderstorm developed 2 miles in the east , the MCS (two occasions) in JUne missed here by about 4 miles to the south and 8 miles to the north. We have had nothing of note all summer but distant rumbles. This is very common - the last half decent storm was overnight in September 2016 when a large part of the south had a deluge. I just cant wait for a half decent storm as my kids have never really witnessed a thunderstorm yet.
  3. Finally had some heavy rain this morning. 10mm in the end. A few cracks of thunder too. Freshened things up. Mind you not sure how much to trust Eldorado 24 hour extremes who advise Isle of purbeck had over 60mm of rain today - does this sound true or a load of tosh ? The Lincs storms looks livley on radar as do tjose over N.Ireland.
  4. I too try to remain positive but last week flash flooding was repored in many nearby towns , Maidenhead, WAtford and Buckingham and is the same each year. I read on Manchster evening news website the headline today was yet another storm hits Manchester - it would be a mircale just to get one here.
  5. I would count ourselves in this one. We had one rumble of thunder after a light hail shower in April. We heard rumbles from nearby storms on two occasions last week - nothing overhead - not even a heavy shower this year to get excited about.
  6. Absolutly boring in HIgh Wycombe. No thunder, lighening or heavy rain. A shower ran a few miles away according to radar late morning - we had nothing. MId afternoon onwards sporadic drizzle - we have had about 1ml. This on top of last week where we had two major storms miss us by a few miles on successive days. Cloudy and drizzly now - no direct hit for 18 years now. THere must be a similar story to the guy in Congelton - it really is too stange that is happens all the time.
  7. In High Wycombe only 4ml fell over two days. Major storms hit south, north , east and west of us. We heard a few rumbles and saw the odd flash in the distance but nothing exciting. Every summer the same happens again and again and we get diddly squat. Heathrow less than 20 miles ago got 26ml - who else in central sothern england got unlucky.
  8. I feel your pain - it was even worse for me as we had storms either side and we had next to nothing here and now await a first storm in 18 years.
  9. Here in a village called Hazlemere just north ogfHIgh Wycombe we got almost nothing. 1ml of rain and some faint rumbles. It looks like we were on the very edge of a great storm which we didnt get once again. Happens every year - looks like it formed into a line now so all to our west will enjoy. No true storms here for 19 years now
  10. how come many locations nearby always get massive rain totals during a thundery spell which we in HIgh Wycombe never get. Over last few years seen high totals in Bedford, Kenley, Charlwood or Brize Norton way above my record when we get a few showers. IN 29 years of record keeping the highest 24 hour total I have recorded is 44mm - today Heathrow had more. I recorded 15 mm today with a few showers - nothing special. LAst night we had a few flashes as we did the night before but nothing to get too excitrd about. Check out the radar and London get lods of white echos which never hit HIgh Wycombe. Its just a strange thing no one from the met office ever mention.
  11. Here in HIgh Wycombe we missed all the fun last week with just 1mm of rain. The forecast is once again we will miss the fun once again tomorrow and LONdon will have the fifth instance of heavy rain. storms in the last year that we will not get a drop from. Has anywhere been drier than HIgh Wycombe over the past 6 weeks. If storms are forecast we always just miss out and it is really frustrating.
  12. nothing again in High Wycombe - dont believe me but check out the rain radar and as soon as anything gets close it dies. We had a pathetic 1mm yesterday and we are so parched. So believe me some parts of southern england are so starved of storms its unreal.
  13. It has been a real borefest in High wycombe again - 1mm of rain in a moderate shower at midday and that is it. Looks like nothing more is coming our way. You lucky lot in South Yorks, LIncs, Banbury, West country - can we just get a little bit please ? Be happy with just a very heavy shower.
  14. Sun has now come out. My rain guage picked up 11ml in one hour. Not too bad.
  15. Here in High Wycombe we have had a good hour of heavy rain. No thunder but the rain did cause minor surface water flooding on local roads. MOst exciting weather event of the year so far.
  16. Any one able to show some footage. Iudging by the radar biblical stuff in Essex now - I would be happy just to witness that once in my life.
  17. As usual just drizzle in HIgh Wycombe. I have never even witnessed dark reds in rain intensity let alone white or purple. PLease can someone confirm how amzing it is. I love storms and intense rain but we just do not get them - so far we have had one weak storm in the last 2 years. Within a 40 mile radius each and every year there is purple rain (like tonight in nw london) and beyond. Chiltern storm shield - forecasters never mention it but it is a fact. 30 years studying local weather i cant be wrong.
  18. Purple shading means biblical rain = 250mm and hour intensity. Possibly even more fun than the storm to the east with less intense rain but a lot of thunder and lightening. This beast will die as it tries to cross the channel IMO.
  19. Hello again. Last year we had one rumble as a moderate shower moved away - yes thats right. Heres to 2022 providing anything more exciting in Hazlemere, HIgh Wycombe. So far today moderate rain - no thunder. Garden did need a watering to be fair though.
  20. High Wycombe update = still no rumbles of thunder even and now in October. This is very likely to be the first year without even a rumble let alone a storm. No torrential downpours either - usually dissipate whenever they appear close. I really dont know why we just dont seem to get storms here any year. In the past I have viewed supercells in the distance - the famous chorleywood storms of 1992 and 1997 which almost destroyed the town and bracknell in 2000. We didnt get a single drop in either. In fact i cant really say i have even witnessed a severe storm in my life. Best so far was July 2005 when we had 27ml fall in 75 minutes in a prolonged storm which thunder and lightening every 2 minutes or so. Worked in town and several pubs and shops got flooded but in the grand scheme of things it is still tinpot compared to many other places. Maybe 2022 will finally deliver the goods. Never give up no matter how much you may want to.
  21. Just in case you were wondering still in no storm club and this could well be no storms all year - here in High Wycombe. Last night storms were not too far away but we didnt get any thunder as i would have woken up. We at least did appear to get some heavy rain - 12ml in my guage this morning.
  22. We have had no rumbles this year. Each time you see a warning just fire off to see the rain radar (you can add lightening strikes) which is brilliant. I prefer them being really far away than just missing us by 10 to 15 miles which seems to be the case and you cant really chase them as they are moving. The static storms in London were really annoying as they were moving at about 4 mph in our direction but were too far away to get to us. Not sure whether it has something to do with the chitern hills but we really dont seem to get much at all.
  23. so far in wycombe 2 light showers. Looks really heavy stuff was over Windsor and just south of us earlier. The wait goes on for my first rumble of thunder this year. Now just looking at some interesting showers over wiltshire moving eastwards - come on its got to happen at some time.
  24. Here in High Wycombe we have had no thunder or heavy showers at all. Incredible as almost every day i see the radar but they always seem to be moving away or dieing when they approach. Only recorded 2ml of rain in last 2 weeks - this came in the form of light rain and drizzle.
  25. Here in the hills of HIgh Wycombe it is now 21 degrees. We had a cloudy morning with occasional drizzle. Now cloud is thinner so bright. Our gardens do need a good watering - come on heavy showers we need you please.
