  1. The Spring Equinox used to be deemed the first day of Spring and still is for example Germany. The old adage that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb still fits the bill, or forecast. For what reason other than simplification did the Met Office decide that the change was neccessary? It regularly seems to be at odds with reality. The 1st of March today is giving us very cold rain, sleet and snow
  2. We are living in a very unstable times in every sense of the words. There is massive destruction of infrastructure and property in Syria, Palestine and Ukraine, warfare exacerbates the increase in greehouse gasses. Dreadful to consider that these actions have the possibility to grow into a greater conflict with futher impacts on CC , even without the nuclear winter postulation. This winter has been very difficult to fore cast for the very expierienced who inform us on this site and there are future unknowns. These rapid changes make for a very volatile future and make forecasting long range highly difficult. I watch with interest and trepidation.
  3. This morning when I first looked at Netweather the highest temperatures in the UK of 5C were very unusually at Lerwick Shetlands and the Scilly Isles. Unusual, probably never happen again, but the circulation of the high just shows what happens when we lose the continental easterly as is predicted in the next couple of days
  4. Well that wasn't forecast. Morning temperature forecast was 3/6C However, rain to sleet in Cardiff 3/4C and went home about 3pm to Pentyrch 2.3 and wet snow, the Garth with a covering on the top. Skies cleared but top of Garth where snow lay became very misty and then temp dropped quite quickly to 1.2C The precipitation has now frozen on the cars.
  5. Living on a farm in Miskin South Wales 1982 we were cut off from Jan 7 th to the 14 th, even the nearby M4 was closed for 2/3 Days. South Wales/West Country Blizzards do provide hedge top to hedge top filling drifts. The latest in Mar 2018 where our local minor roads were blocked by drifts.
