Storms and Convective discussion - May 2024
ThomasD27 replied to Eagle Eye's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
My weather station and a few others nearby are getting temperatures of 21°c, dewpoints in around 14-15°c. Could this have any implications on storms further up north? I noticed most models giving dewpoints of 9-12° round here, and the temperatures were underdone aswell. -
Wade It's been a beautiful couple of days round here too, highs of 20.1°c the last two days, reached 17.9° already today. Certainly inspires hope for the rest of actual spring, not the sorry imitation we've had for the last couple weeks. No measurable rain since the 29th!

Daily weather observations - April 29th to May 5th
ThomasD27 replied to Summer Sun's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
18:00 (30.04.24) A cool morning, with a warm afternoon. Sunny skies with first signs of convection seen at noon, with the sky now dominated by mediocris. Cirriform clouds throughout the day. Dry Current temp: 18.4c Max temp: 20.1c Overnight min: 8.2c Barometer: 994 mb falling gradually Rainfall: 0mm! 5 oktas (Cu hum, Cu med, Ci homogenitus, Ci sjaffa cakesatus) -
First 20c of the year for me. Felt a lot warmer in the urban heat island in town; it probably was with the sun being out all day. Also saw some distant lenticular clouds from the M62, now mostly shallow convective clouds. That makes 203 days since my weather station last recorded 20c, feels like the first "Summer" weather in so long.

12:00 (28.04.24) Dull with persistent rain 2-5mm/hr since the early hours. Humid and bitterly cold for the time of year. Current temp: 6.1c Overnight min: 5.6c Rainfall: 18.42mm Barometer: 998 steady Wind:F4 WNW Humidity: 93% 8 Oktas (Ns. praecipitatio , St fractus) -
I'm actually quite impressed with how bad the weather is this morning. 17.6mm recorded so far, 5.6c. It has barely dropped below 2mm/hr since 4 a.m, at which point it was warmer than it is now! That makes 76mm so far for April. Whatever happens next week at least we know it'll be better than this (for us in the East, at least).

What a strange day. Got to 0.7° last night and took its sweet time warming up. Fast forward to lunch time and it gets to 11.9°, lovely in the sun, warm relative to what we're used to. It even reached 9 on the UV index. Then by 3pm it's dropped to 6°, and constant rain for the next 4 hours. 12.8mm in total, mostly isolated to my general area. Tipped it down for a time. Probably the humber estuary causing trouble with its convergence, as the wind changed direction to the east. It even caused a funnel cloud in May last year! This crazy weather isn't any good for my plants either, can't wait to get the veggies transplanted but this incoming plume seems short lived.

It's very interesting how the warm sector of the cyclone to our northwest is affecting the temperatures. It's 14 degrees right now, warmer than it's been in the last 54 hours, and it's 11pm!

Formed under a heavy, *very* isolated, small heavy shower. Most likely caused by the Humber Estuary convergence. -

Recorded 19.8c today, just shy of the 20' a few others got. It really didn't feel like it though, with a strong wind from the south, so I'm happy to reserve my first 20' for a more pleasant day
