I've noticed that the new overnight record high, was at Emley Moor, at an elevation of 267 m.
In my town of Bradford, the overnight low recorded by BBC/Meteo was 19 C in the valley bottom. Whereas where I live on the top of the overlooking hill, the low was 24 C. The other two nearby weather stations, both on hill tops, also recorded lows of 23 C.
As a layperson, I had always assumed the higher you were, the cooler it got. And that has always been my experience when I've checked the temperatures before.
So, was something strange happening last night, to give all these high temperatures at high elevations?
