  1. Had an alright storm here but think uk storms are ruined for me now after what I saw in Slovenia/Croatia this summer. Very tame in comparison but probably for the best we don't get those storms.
  2. Perfect weather. Shame being stuck inside working all day. Looks like going downhill just in time for the weekend.
  3. I feel the bbc and met forecasts, more often than not overstate, thunderstorms. Often they say thundery rain or thunderstorms when it ends up being a band of heavy rain. I think heavy rain with a risk of thunder would be a better description but I suppose it’s not certain. Always seem to get thunderstorms when there was no warning issued and hardly ever when one was.
  4. Not as warm as expected this evening, nice though but bit of a cool breeze. Definitely feeling summer start to fade, sun is a lot lower at this time now. Not many warm summer evenings this year, should have made the most of June!
  5. I flew back from Croatia this evening. Was thunderstorm about an hour before the flight but luckily they cleared in time. Quite sad to see all the damage caused by these storms.
  6. Arrived in Zagreb today in time so see another monster storm. The sky actually went green which I’ve only seen once before. More damage today with quite a lot of branches and some trees down. A little bit of hail too. That’s storms every day and 3 severe ones on this trip. The one on Wednesday at Lake Bled was scary as I was halfway up a mountain when it hit, thought I tree might come down on me. Managed to make it down safely though! Quite a few trees came down that day too. IMG_2816.MOV
  7. In Ljubljana on holiday. Biggest storm I’ve seen in person today. Very strong winds caused some damage to roof tiles and outdoor furniture. Ominous sky as it approached. Much fresher now. FullSizeRender.MOV IMG_2731.MOV
  8. Think that line of storms got me in Ljubljana. Biggest storm I’ve ever seen in person. Very strong winds, some damage was done to roof tiles and outdoor furniture. Ominous sky as it approached with clear striations in cloud. IMG_2730.MOV IMG_2731.MOV
  9. Yes, I remember that. The 12th of July was really bad in West London (I'm in Shepherds Bush). It was torrential rain that just kept going pretty much non stop for over an hour and frequent lightning. Basement flats near me got flooded. Was very slow moving band of storms. Happened again on 25th July, I was in Clapham and street became a river.
  10. My flat got to 35c last July on the 40c day! Doesn’t help it is a south and west facing flat with big victorian windows not designed for keeping cool. It does help in winter though. Worst part was after a thunderstorm came and it was much cooler outside, I opened the drawers and all my clothes were warm!
  11. Oops that was wrong, it was the 17th, thought that was today aha.
  12. This day last year reached 27.5C at Heathrow, hard to imagine getting that now. Still weather much better now than last few weeks of cloud. Hoping it can be sunny into June, my fav month of the year if weather is nice
  13. The reason equilux is a few days before equinox is due to a couple of factors: - the sun is not a point so the sunrise is measured when the top edge of it reaches above the horizon, even though it's central point is still below the horizon - Also, the atmosphere refracts sunlight and so the sunlight bends and appears above the horizon a few minutes earlier Am also waiting to appreciate much of the increased daylight. When we finally get a sunny day, is going to be quite a surprise. Hopefully soon, although doesn't look like it in the models. Looking forward to light evenings again though!
  14. The good thing is the rate of increase in sun strength starts to pick up now. It takes over 5 weeks in London for the sun angle to go from 15 deg to 20 deg but only just over 2 weeks to go from 20 to 25, and sun soon rises 1 deg every 3 days. The darkest 3 month period ends around 1st/2nd week of Feb.
  15. Wouldn’t be envious of Scotland’s weather. Has been raining here nearly every day this week. Been back home for Christmas. Lots of flooding this morning near Edinburgh and ground saturated. For most of Scotland there’s not much in way of snow, only if your high ground in the highlands where most people don’t live.
