Naming of storms is a communication tool, to highlight a severe event. The MO warnings show the detail of areas/ likelihood and impacts. The winds last night caused power outages in local areas and it sounded lively outside. That the actual storm has yet to arrive has hopefully highlighted to people that maybe travelling home a bit early on Sunday would be a good idea or moving activities a few hours earlier might help today. To prepare outside stuff, NOT to put out the recycling tonight ready for Monday morning pickup (although I see someone in my street has done exactly that)

Being a 'storm' it's not a medal of highest wind speeds, it's about potential impacts and letting people know to make preparations and, hopefully, informed decisions. Monday morning travel could be impacted, it's nice to to have a heads-up in good time. After the event, the stand-out impactful ones will have an easy label - like Desmond's rain, Arwen's winds and Babet's coastal onslaught.

Quite right.hence I left northwales early today to head back to liverpool

Clinging on to the last of the snow here. Can't really complain much better than some of us expected that little cold spell.to still have snow laying three days after it stuck I'll take that. Was a boss little surprise if a little brief.

Note to myself - stick to the NWP within 5 days.  Everything else is just pie in the sky.  Hopefully I will learn my lesson this time.  This chase has been so draining for so little.  The biggest bust in NW history?

There's deffo been worse .will have to have a think about which chase but deffo has been.plus some parts did okay and got surprise snowfalls that usually see very little

That is a meme photo. Honestly.

It's the flip-side of what kept happening throughout high summer last year, where literally the entirety of Europe outside of the UK had sunny, warm weather, whilst we were under a big blob of cloud 24/7.

Is anyone starting to believe in weather alteration technology yet? If any country has it, it's the UK! 😝

Eh? We had some brilliant summer days last summer.thete was a stretch of about three weeks of sunshine

What part of Mossley Hill are you. I am hoping my 3 Yr old twin grandsons can play in it, they have never snow before

I'm pretty much by the station .elmsley road .round the corner from the rose of mossley pub.plenty of snow at the minute but it'll melt rapidly I'd imagine as the sun is shining now and it is all falling off the trees.hope they get to have a play in the snow 🤞
