  1. Thank you for this link - found my nearest sensor (a couple of miles away, on the coast) which has recently recorded close to 80mph!
  2. It is currently snowing in St Ives and Padstow has also had a dusting - nothing here unfortunately….photos taken from the Aspects holidays webcam page Penzance now, too!
  3. I awoke at 4am, an hour into the start of the amber warning and it was calm and still. An hour later and it was the complete opposite! Windy and wet and exciting! It was unexpectedly cold, too! I guess that was the wind chill but one of my plant pots was making its way down the road and I regretted running after it with no coat on! Still blustery now but nothing compared to earlier, which correlates with the amber expiring at 11am. The attached is my garden pond which I had already cleared of leaves, once, by the time this photo was taken!
  4. The wind is really picking up here! A few flickering lights and plenty of school closures (although not my son’s, much to their disappointment but I’m still expecting an announcement).
  5. I have no skill at reading models but I often read how we cannot accurately predict weather more than a few days ahead let alone months so why is it that the posts I’m reading appear to be taking the models at face value? Are long term models showing averages for a whole period more accurate than day to day models that show very specific dates?
  6. A little wind was not stopping this goldfinch from having his mid morning snack! It only lasted for a few hours but the winds were exciting for a while this morning! FullSizeRender.MOV
  7. I genuinely feel a bit sad reading how the light levels/cloud cover/cold/rain has such an impact on some of you. I have always been lucky that, while snow has been my favourite since I can remember (due to an immensely snowy holiday to Scotland in the early 90’s when I was just a little girl), I am happy in all weather, even if it is monotonous or I feel like the previous seasons expected weather did not ‘deliver’. I walk around my village to people making comments of ‘miserable old day’ and I’m thinking ‘not really’ If I could give you all my head, I would! That includes the ones on here that appear the opposite and love the approaching time of year and hate the summer. One thing that does interest me, why are we not all acclimatised to our changeable weather - I often wonder, do some Inuits hate the snow and long for sun and do some Mexican’s hate the heat and long for the cold I am sure they do, I’m just not on their weather forums to know
  8. Long term lurker but only just created an account…with a question. Is this accurate? It appears to be a massive storm? No where near me unfortunately.
