  1. Just heard crack of thunder sounded to south east, no lightning seen though. I missed the thunder at 8am - unusually for me I slept through it. Steve Edit: Well that was brief! 5 minutes later heavy rain stopped & the sun is out.
  2. Has the IOW storm detector been hit, not seen it this active for a while! Could alot of the strikes be the same one recorded multiple times? http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/live_storm_data2.htm Is this our only storm for tonight? I hope so - sorry guys I have not quite managed to cure my fear of storms at night although radar watching helps. Steve Edit: Looking at Nick's post it's possble I may be in for a long night.
  3. Looking out front of the house it's really black over Horndean with lots of rolling thunder, look out the back of the house toward Hayling Island and it's quite a nice day - blue sky with white fluffy clouds. Steve
  4. Time for me to hide under the stairs then - I was hoping it was someone putting out the bins! Steve
  5. And the Mont St Michel is on it's way from Pompey to Caen currently doing 14kts east of the south tip of the IOW according to AIS. I'm surprised with the forecast it didn't stay in Pompey. Steve
  6. For once on Sunday I wouldn't mind a storm in the Portsmouth area - I won't be there! However if there is a storm at the Bournemouth Air Festival then I won't be happy, already disappointed the Vulcan has been grounded with a fuel leak. Then again maybe I can face my fear and get some lightning pics instead! Steve PS Purplepixii, despite being born & bred in Portsmouth, I had to bite my tongue as well!
  7. Thunder here every 2 minutes or so. Getting closer. Steve
  8. Hi, Thunder here sounds like north of me, constant rumbles for last 10 minutes. Steve
  9. Yeah certainly not something I want to go through again, the blue light run to the hospital wasn't exactly calming... Luckily they managed to get it back to normal within about 20 minutes using drugs and tests showed no lasting damage but I have yearly checkups to make sure. Steve
  10. Thanks JL, as I said a lot better than I was - the fact I posted proves it, very difficult to type with fingers in your ears! Before I had a phone that could do Internet I once ended up in hospital with a heart rate that wouldn't go below 180! That was as scary as the storm.... Steve Edit: Anyone know if it's possible to get the ip board iPhone app to show posters locations - I tried to use my browser to post and get a 500 error.
  11. All the parties round here ended rather quickly as I dived under the stairs, how long will I have to stay here? Must admit I'm not as petrified as I used to be I think it's because I have a decent phone and can radar watch. Steve
  12. All except one cloud has vanished and that one doesn't appear to have changed in size or moved since I originally looked. Steve
  13. Roughly 3 miles I'd say. Edit: 2.29 miles to nearest coastline as the crow flies according to google earth. Steve
  14. At Havant, there is white fluffy clouds to the south and hazy skies to the north. Steve
  15. Well that was rather a non event, one close flash & bang then a couple of distant flashes and rumbles and it was gone. Didn't get chance to get under the table.
  16. Thunder, lightning and hail in Havant. Will report any further from under the table.......
  17. Is there a glich on the 2030 Met Office radar or has a lot of the rain magically evaporated? Steve (Only action here so far has been a few IC flashes at 0330ish this morning)
  18. Thundering to north of here 5 rumbles so far, blue skies and sunshine looking south. Steve
  19. We keep having really torrential rain with the odd hail shower thrown in, only 1 distant rumble of thunder and no noticeable lightning here so far today. Steve
  20. Can anyone give an reason why here on the south coast - where there's been nothing all day - my storm risk has jumped from 56% at 2200 on the 12z to 71% on the 18z run? Surely there is even less chance now than there was earlier? Steve
  21. Can confirm this, very large raindrops for 10 minutes - cat came in soaked! Now stopped and sun is back out and so is the cat.. but for how long? Steve
  22. Oi as you've nicked my table, i'll hide under the stairs, you can't pinch them!
  23. Hi, Is any of the rain approaching the south coast electrified? It's just started raining here and I would like to know if I have to shut-down the pc and hide under the table tonight !!!! Steve
