  1. okay  , my use of the word 'blizzard' does not fit the official term.

Yet, its a bit breezy, and its big fat forrest gump type snow coming down...for me..thats a...blizaard B)

Radar shows nothing to the SE, so I guess this is just one of those weird streamer things...maybe, or we are just getting a bit lucky this night. Regardless, this is kinda yet another bonus for those in the city.

How many days of snow is this? I ain't counting, but we must be up to 15/17 by now, and its now even mid January yet!

  2. Night falls over the icy city, the drivers move ever faster, it is not going to end well for some this evening.

Here at the Mall, big ole' forest gump 'fat snow' flakes, making travelling exceedingly nasty. The radar does look to offer maybe a fair bit more, for those west of the city, I'd think those in Reading should be on DEFCON'2 right now for serious snow problems.

*Is that Moses outside? Is that why the London snow-shield has fatally failed this Christmas?

ALl hail....the 11'th commandment. Thous shall see snow at Christmas time in the city!

  3. NW london, there was just a very unusual cloud line passing through here. It was the leading edge of what is currently a quite active T-Storm. I've not seen such cloud movement in a long while, really crazy, moving all sorts of directions.

Those in the core of the city, keep ya eyes on the skies to your North. Its really turbulent up there this afternoon!

Just a link to a news channel in NO showing water starting to pour over the Industrial Canal levy, here's hoping that it doesnt rise any more!

but its going to keep on rising for 12-18 hours I'd think. The loose barge/ship could easily weaken a levee wall. I've even read reports of cracks, although with so many miles of walls, that'd not be surprising.

but don't worry, the Bush will address the world in less than an hour. All is saved!

    Calrissian: toppled over.

  5. Wow how do you know so much about what is happening?

I have about 10 feeds running at the same time! ,lol

It is confusing my brain though, CNN+hurricane city+WWL+WCDU,..etc...its hurts the neurons.

    ---

The media seem really focused on the industrial canal, and I've seen plenty of stuff on it. The walls are 15ft high or so, and were heavily reinforced post-katrina. They look really good, but if the water level is another 2-3 ft higher, even if the levee holds, the water will just pour over and flood the area regardless.

*the convection in the SW sector Gustav is VERY impressive, and seems to be increasing with each hour.

Calrissia: the Core'2 cpu really helps !

  6. okay, I think this is still being underplayed a bit...

The media have been really jumping ahead too much. All this talk of 'ohh, its not too bad at all, we escaped'.

Do they not remember 3 yrs ago? It wasn't until a day after that the floods started. A DAY. I would not feel in the least bit assured until Wednesday.

    --

Meanwhile, Grand Isle is mostly covered in water, the levees are being steadily over-topped, and the water levels are relentlessly increasing. Ohh, and the rains are really yet to really start in the northern sector, so there is a lot of water due to flow down into the lakes and then move south.

    A VERY long day ahead.

  7. re: levees

I'd dare say I am sure most will be just fine, but might be a few breaks in 1-3 places. Depends on whether the breaks are in the worse areas. Of course, it looked all fine post Katrina for an entire day, before the breaks occured.

So, if I would not feel reassured until sometime late Tuesday/Wednesday.

Meanwhile, overall convection is much stronger than a few hours ago...

It is also clear the storm is indeed expanding more westward. Might the centre be pulled west, and stay off the land?

Hmm, a long day ahead of all those in Louisiana.

**meanwhile, the Atlantic NHC map looks like a dartboard. 1 cane, 1 TS, 1 low, and 3 other invests.

    Calrissian: :)

  8. Watching the live feed for WWL TV, the two hosts, do seem very positive about matters. They are very confident that the storm is weaker than they feared, and that flooding does not appear to be likely :whistling:

A Cat'3 major cane on their doorstep, and they are so sure. Hmm.

Looks to me like eye is real close to grand isle, so all that low lying land will surely be covered.

    Long day ahead.

    Calrissian: welcome to September
