Hi,
Thanks for replying. All the other readings are OK, it's just the wind speed / direction one which isn't. I've been using the station wirelessly since I got it just over two years ago, and I connect it to my PC every evening to download the day's data, using the HeavyWeather software, which also isn't displaying the wind information. When I fitted the new cable, I had to get the anemomter down from where it was (on top of a tall pole!), and even in a new position, with a new cable, it still isn't working. How would I "check that the sensor channel is set correctly within the unit"?
Thanks,
David.
Have you tried manually spinning the wind sensor to see if anything responds, as for resetting the display unit, take the batteries out and unplug from mains, and then after about 10 seocnds replace the batteries and plug back into mains, you may loose the baromic pressure for a couple of hrs when it re-adjusts, but its worth a try.

Hi, the --- means that the reciever has not recieved data from the sensor since the last update. Now if it is not doing anything i would suggest first of all unplug the reciever from the mains and remove the batteries. This should reset the unit and it will look for the sensors in a sync mode (i have the ws2500 wireless so it should use same princible). Also check that the sensor channel is set correctly within the unit. Are your other readings O.K as it may be an error in the temp reciever, or you may be picking up static from a surafce touching the cable. Have you tired using it wirelessly and is it connected to your pc?

I recon although still a lively year, we wont see as many USA landfalls, and a few less severe hurricanes in the atlantic basin.

Very light snow for most of morning and into afternoon here.

I would like some advise on the best thing to use as a sun shield to stop me getting direct sun light on my temp sensor.
I have been thinking of using some kind of wooden shield
Thanks
Wood sounds good, paint it white and tha\t should be good enough. i Personally would make some sort of box with a computer fan attached to the side to keep the reading true.

(Just to add what Paul has said) I wouldnt have thought that you would get 25 knot wind for a long period other than gusts in low pressure systems on occasions, so i would say that it should be O.k, sounds like an interesting project, keep us posted.

Difficult choice but i think for seasonal MCT is closetest so he gets my vote All others quite good though.

Here in worcs, it doesnt seem that far off normal, in the last 5 years we have had so little snow here it doesnt make a difference anymore. Although i would agree on the whole, that the u.k has seen more dry cold days than normal.

Can anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive possibly wireless camera I could mount on my roof and stream onto the internet?
Hi, i personally use a Sony digital 8 camera for my webcam but it is indoors pointing west, i would say your best option would be argos. Go for something with at least 640-480 resolution, but these are for indoors only, it also means you can access the camera should anything go wrong.

I brought the device indoors yesterday and it quickly responded - RH down to about 55% within an hour. So it (probably) isn't faulty. All I can think is that it is pretty damp around here (close to the sea, sun very low, damp grass nearby), so maybe it really is right at 100% where it is, and a more representative reading would be made in free air up a tall pole - which probably how it's supposed to be done, not screwed to the garage wall at 2m agl!
Sounds like a good idea to put it up higher  , seen as your not far from the sea i would say that your RH is correct, i have my Temp sensor on a 1 metre pole attached to my bathroom roof, and the data seems to be not affected in any way.

Our grass is green, well i say grass its more like a few weeds growing through the patio.

That's the nub of it: what to compare to... Currently 100% and has been since 22:00 last night apart from about 20 minutes this afternoon when it dropped to 97%.
It may be picking moisture up from the ground, try and get it away from the ground and any walls etc, as thye can give false readings. However if you have mist or dew and it reads quite high then i would say its working o.k.

Here's another query...
I've had an Oregon Scientific weather station running for about three weeks now. The outdoor temperature / humidity sensor is on a south-facing wall (temporarily, it'll be moved to a north-facing location very soon but it is currently shaded from direct sunlight all day) about 1.5m above the ground. About half the time it reports 98% relative humidity (RH). I've made the assumption that this should be 100% and have adjusted it in Weather Display accordingly. My query is this: does it seem realistic to have 100% RH so much of the time, or is it possible that I either have a faulty sensor or that the sensor's located inappropriately? I should add that the temperature measurements seem okay...
Well it all depends on the weather you have. Here in Worcester the max humidity i have recorded was 96% but only lasted for a few hours close to a weather front. What is the reading at present??

ok here are some, i can remember a few that where posted but cannot find them (only 1 or two though), so here they are:

If it has a solar cell it may not be getting enough light, i have all mine facing in a southely direction so that they can get all th elight, it also needs to be quite exposed as well.
If it is not solar powered then they may be something interfering with it, if you imagine line of sight from the console to the sensor what exactly is in its way?

After the pobs you have OON i am almost glad i didnt get a V/P.

I must admit the la crosse models are good for the money, i have the WS2500, very good but update rate is a bit slow. But for the moeny it does exactly what i want. Although a few minor interference problems with the temp sensor all else is going good.
Good luck with your station
